British Curlies - All About Naturally Beautiful Curls

Coconut oil comes in two different forms, refined and virgin. In the refined process, the coconut kernel is dried then put through a press to extract the oil. Most large chain stores sell this variety, as it is cheaper than the virgin products. This type of coconut oil process may appeal to you if you have an aversion to the smell of coconut, as refined coconut oil lacks the aroma or taste.
In the process for virgin coconut oil, the oil is extracted right from the fresh coconut meat, retaining that wonderful aromatic coconut scent and flavor.
Either variation promotes health and radiance in both your skin and hair, though for the best results, you should use virgin coconut oil and organic where possible. Applying coconut oil after a bath or as an all-over moisturizer results in amazingly silky, supple skin. It works to improve the condition of dry skin, and evens out skin tone.
Coconut oil also has great effect on hair, adding volume and shine to hair. A small dab can be used to tame flyaways and smooth split ends, adding polish to your look. Coconut oil is also great to use on your little one's curls to smooth and lock in moisture.
For damaged hair, coconut oil can be used as a deep conditioning mask. Heat the coconut oil for a few seconds, then gently work it though the hair and massage into the scalp. Coat hair with the warmed oil, using a wide-tooth comb to gently distribute the oil through the strands evenly, always starting from the ends and working your way up. Cover the hair with a shower cap, and sleep overnight, allowing the oil to soak into the hair. For those in a hurry, use a hair dryer on the mixture or wrap your hair in a warm towel as the heat helps the oil better penetrate the hair. Shampoo thoroughly and you may skip conditioner, and admire the healthy look of your curls!
Coconut oil is one of the best products for curly hair and especially useful for those with dry tight curls. Work a tablespoon of oil through wet hair, and style as usual. The oil helps soften the curls and retain moisture, resulting in beautiful, shining ringlets.

Quick question….the Coconut oil I see in shops near me are all solid, so I have to melt it before using it as a deep conditioner. Whnever I’ve used some in my hair, obviously as the temperature changes it either stays liquid or solidifies - I’m assuming that isn’t great for your hair. Can I actually get Coconut oil in a permanently liquid state?
xx
Hi JungleHead
Thank you! A great question coconut oil will naturally solidify when the temperature is cool. But it so easily melts to the touch. When you buy your coconut oil and it is solid just put it in a warm place at home and it will quickly return to it’s liquid state
If you put it in your hair in a liquid state it shouldn’t harden again. Remember you just need a small amount to see a difference.
Thanks so much Keisha Jo! I think that’s where I went wrong…I had quite a bit in my hair lol. A little goes a long way I guess
Hi Keisha,
I used coconut oil in my haie and left it in overnight once- my hair was straight when i washed it out the next day, and dried crispie on the canopy- altoght underneath was left with silky glossy curls- should i leave in for less time in future
Hi Lisa-Marie
Yes maybe try not to leave it on as long but more importantly follow with a moisturising conditioner as well like the Komaza Care Olive Moisture Mask which has no protein in it. Hope that helps!

When shampooing, remember that the thicker the hair, the longer you need to rinse in order to remove all the shampoo.
