How To Wash Your Curls?

by Keisha Jo

How not to wash your curls is perfectly illustrated here. Notice the "commercial image" we have always seen with the hair full of high lather and suds piled on top.

This is a big no no for anyone but if you have curls an absolute no!

If you wash your curls like the above you will be in tangle city and shedding tears in no time flat!

What you should do is keep your hair going in a downward direction. Start by soaking your hair through with water allowing the water to flow over and through your curls. For thick hair once your hair is totally saturated with water you can seperate your hair into 2 or 4 sections and apply your cleansing agent to your finger tips then go straight to the scalp and gently but firmly massage all over then smooth down the ends ( only necessary if you use oils, butters or waxy products ) if you don't use heavy butters you can skip that step.

Rinse clean and move on to the conditioning phase with less tangles grin

Thanks for the article Keisha Jo and for pointing out the fact that it is just as important how you wash your curls (and what with) as to how you style them. Every stage is vital to getting gorgeous curls.

Great help!  I am very gentle when washing and towel drying my hair before, but obviously not enough!  After using your directions, my hair was less frizzy and curled better.  Thanks for the help!

I never use a shampoo on my curls, just conditioner.  Is this a wise thing to do?
