British Curlies - All About Naturally Beautiful Curls
At 15h50 I walked into Unruly Studio and was given a warm welcome. Carlos wasn't there yet so I sipped my water (waaaay too nervous to even think of having wine) and watched what was happening in the corner of the salon. A Curly was having her hair dried and the stylist was using a diffuser. He seemed to be very patient and meticulous about what he was doing. I checked the time on my phone and when I looked up the Curly was lying back in her chair, completely horizontal, and the stylist was diffusing the underneath bits of her hair. I'm thinking "please don't let me have to do this".
Carlos was on time and by the time the introductions were finished I felt totally at ease. He started by showing me a few 'tricks' to revive my curls that were quick and easy to do and they definitely work as I've been able to do it myself since then.
The conversation flowed freely covering topics from favourite TV shows to family trees and of course to hair care.
Carlos said I should deep condition my hair at least 3 times a week and if I could then even more often would be better.
No more plopping for me, I should just squeeze out the water from root to tip and this will retain the curl formation when my hair dries.
Carlos showed me at least 5 different hairstyles in the space of about 10 minutes! All of them easy-peasy.
The way he dried my hair was different too (well at least for me) - he used a diffuser but didn't let it touch my hair. No touching of the curls while the hair is still wet! It looked great when he was done.
Curly Hair Tips:
I feel like I've missed something out. Oh yeah! I had a haircut as well! Carlos highlighted the obvious 'v' formation that I had going on and we agreed that he needed to straighten that line a bit. He cut my hair dry (another first) and it seemed he cut curl by curl. Ah, the joy of an appointment with Carlos! The beauty of it is that Carlos recommends a cut only every 8 months to a year so £100 isn't all that bad (leaving plenty of time to save in between appointments). An appointment with Carlos isn't a treat, it's a necessity!
The 2 hours flew by and Carlos, the Super Awesome Curl Guru (he's so beyond genius in my books), has gained a customer for life!

Oh lovely, thank you very much Michelle. I’m sorry, I didn’t realise you would get the message. Your hair looks really lovely, but I can’t imagine it not looking lovey as you’ve got beautiful curls!
Thank you SAMK - I saw your comment here and thought I’d reply so absolutely no need to apologise
Carlos is great and if you get a chance to see him then definitely go for it!
Apologies for the smileys coming up in these random places…I promise that they were strategically placed for maximum effect but seems that they end up at the start of the lines instead.
Your hair looks fantastic Michelle!
Thanks CT! It was a huge help…not only the cut but all the advice was awesome and I definitely notice the difference.
I love your curls - they look so healthy and full of bounce. It makes me glad to be a curly head when I see articles like this.
