British Curlies - All About Naturally Beautiful Curls

The State of Mind in Most Salons in the UK

by Keisha Jo

At the same time I hope some stylist's also saw it, noted it and took it seriously as this is the general feeling amongst the Curly Headed population of this straight look mantra up and down our salon high streets.

It really needs to change.

Jacky we can't thank you enough for highlighting this in such a direct and clear manner and can only hope that if even one stylist's saw this and said well I want to be different and really embrace curls instead of reaching for the flat irons each and every time we won't be able to thank you enough!

i love it!! everytime i tell a haridresser i want MORE curl I get told that a ‘poker straight blunt bob’ is very popular. OR I end up looking like a layered wedding cake. Aaaaargh!

This is so true!  The amount of times i’ve been to the hairdresser and they seem to be at a bit of a loss about what to do with my hair, they either cut it and style it as though i wear it straight every day or they cut it as though it’s straight then fill it so full of product my hair is solid and i look like i’ve had a bucket of water tipped over my head!

Bad haircuts suck on curly hair it loks like a triangle shape witch was horrible i had a few times, until i went to go get a deva cut in deva curl salon its for natuarl curlies! Since my hair is amazing now, i wonder if they have one in london? or some thing like it. they cut hair dry so to watch the shape. hopefully i need another trim

Agreed! I had a horrible experience with a hairdresser who claimed to know how to deal with all kinds of hair. She was a friend of my parents’, so I had little choice about it. Needless to say she chopped off so much of my hair due to her confusion about curls that I sported a horrible square afro (is there a word for that?) for years until I managed to grow it out. I haven’t had a haircut since… haven’t trusted scissors enough.

Charlie Dimmock changed the way many girls with curls felt about themselves. Watching her on Ground Force full mane of curls flowing and keeping up with the boys often surpassing them was fantastic and empowering.
