British Curlies - All About Naturally Beautiful Curls
We at British Curlies share our thoughts at getting the best care for your curls if and when you do have to go to the salon
because sometimes we know we all want a little pampering.
The most important way to choose a stylist who loves working with curls is to ask your friends who have curly hair and whose haircuts and hair styles you admire!!!!
Then telephone and make an appointment with that particular stylist so that you are well on your way to getting a style you will be happy with.
If you just cannot get a referral, when you get to the hair salon, you can ask the manager to recommend the best stylist for your particular hair.
You will get the feeling that the stylist knows what he or she is talking about just by the way your hair is analyzed when the original consultation is given as soon as you walk through the door and are seated. If you walk in and they immediately throw on a gown and send you to the wash basin it's time to leave.
The length of your hair and the shape of your face has a lot to do with what style should be recommended.
Curly hair requires special care and handling, and your curl type of curls determines the amount of product that should be applied.
A good leave in conditioner will work on many types of curly hair.
Some types of curls such as those of african american hair type, are actually quite fine, and your stylist should be gentle with your hair to prevent snagging or breaking off the ends. The stylist should know that you do not brush dry curly hair and only a large tooth comb should be used to detangle your curls during the conditioning phase of washing your hair. Hot oil treatments can also be helpful to rehydrate your curls.
We love using headbands or ornamental sparkly large smooth hair grips to work with pretty curly hair that just needs to be restrained somewhat -- the curls falling down your back can be very appealing! Don't forget that a good salon can offer you curly hair extensions too.

If anyone knows a good stylist for curly hair in London, please let me know. I’ve tried Unruly in Notting Hill which is supposed to be recommended but although they knew how to style it, they cut it wet and far too short. It’s taken 6 months to grow it back to the stage where I can think of cutting it again! Help! I look like a shaggy dog!!!...and that’s really not a good look.
Can anyone recommend a salon in Birmingham for curlies? Thanks

Hey Curlies!
Just to let you guys know I went to this salon (Hair Specifix in Finsbury Park)yesterday and was really happy with the results. The passion of the manager for the problems us curlies face made me feel really at ease and the lady who cut my hair new what she was doing. Plus she cut it dry to avoid the springing up problem!
I’ll definitely be returning and recommending so thank you Lisa

Does anyone know of a good stylist in the Bristol or Clevedon area. I have to admit on a few occasions I have resorted to cutting my hair myself. The stylist I have at the moment has know idea how to cut curly hair and my hair is always flat on top!! Like Curlybex I look like a shaggydog!!! Help!!!
I went to Lisa-Marie’s salon yesterday (she comment below Posted By lisa-marie on 07 August 2009)and had a great hairdressing experience! She knew how to treat my crazy curls and paid attention to my hair type. The cocktail treatment was fab and I left the salon looking and feeling great…I would recommend Lisa .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) her by email or visit the salon in London Hair SpeciFix,90 Stroud Green Road in Finsbury Park.
