Tips To Avoid Dry Trashy Hair This Winter

by Keisha Jo

1st get your head around the idea of protective styles. A protective style is exactly what it says. A style of wearing your hair that protects it from the elements, be it indoor heating which is great at pulling the moisture out of your skin and hair or once outside as romantic as it looks in the movies having your hair whipping behind you with the ice cold wind blowing through it will soon leave you with dry brittle strands that snap and break and leave you in tears....and to fumble to make sense of it in the bathroom mirror!

So get creative start experimenting and see what styles you like to do that suits you for both work and play. The easiest protective style is a bun. You don’t need a degree to put your hair up and tuck your ends away to protect them. Head for the high street and pick up some accessories to give you options. Before any protective style take the opportunity to apply some nourishing oil, moisturiser or hair butter to give your hair a great treatment at the same time.

Water is the No. 1 moisturiser for any hair type but who has time to run around with a wet head when the chill is on? Grab a Curl Cloth or Curlease Towel and never leave your house with sopping wet hair again!

Scenario you are at college or work all day long:

Hair in a beautiful protective do, in tea/ lunch breaks use a moisture spray which gives your curls a nice refreshing mist to top up and protect your hair throughout the day without having to touch your curls. While you are at it go have a quick peep at your face and apply some moisturiser to your skin. Chances are if your hair is dry your skin is suffering too and needs a little tender loving care.

Step up your protein treatments if you have fine textures and for thicker hair types increase the moisture treatments on your hair.

If you don’t have the length to do protective styles this winter. Follow the same cares tips and ensure you keep your hair covered either with a silk lined beret while outdoors and indoors just keep adding your moisturiser of choice to keep your curls moist and supple. The weather is changing but all it takes is a few adjustments to your curl routine. Don’t let it stop you from wearing your curls with pride!

So those are just a few tips. Got more share please!

Thanks for the useful article Keisha Jo. My hair/skin always goes dry in the autumn/winter months due to central heating and the outside elements. You have provided some helpful tips to follow.

Alex Kingston, WOW is what we say. She took our breath away in Moll Flanders! I think most British Curlies spent the time watching her curls in action. Seriously though Alex Kingston is a real Icon for staying true to her curls despite the pressures of fame and Hollywood.
