Why Nail Care means Curl Care

by Keisha Jo

One of the greatest advantages of having wonderfully curly hair is the fact that you can usually get out of the shower, apply your favourite styling products and air dry your hair, and then use your fingers to split your curls apart for even more volume. After which you may choose to add a little hair milk or organic oil to srunch any crunch out. However, if your hands and nails are rough, dry or cracked, you might be doing more harm than good to your precious curls and coils. If your hands are not well conditioned, you could be damaging your curls with hang nails or dry, rough skin.
It's important to remember that when your hair is wet and freshly washed, it is weaker than when it's dry. Therefore, although rough hands and nails don't seem to be too much of a threat, they can actually cause a lot of damage and increase the frizziness of your curls in the short term. To avoid such a threat, make sure you get regular manicures, whether you complete them yourself or go to a salon. Taking care of your hands and nails should be as automatic as taking care of your curls.
This weekend, when you are deep-conditioning and spending extra time on your curls, why not give your nails and hands a little extra attention as well? While your hair is conditioning, you could apply a conditioning treatment to your nails and have them smoothed out in no time. That way, next time you go to style your curls, your hands will not be the hidden threat in the situation anymore. Instead, your curls will appear as nourished and healthy as ever before. In addition, without split ends, you won't have to get such frequent trims either. In order to take care of your curls, make sure you are taking care of your hands and nails!

Great article Keisha Jo. I didn’t consider that the condition of my hands and nails could affect my hair. Shea butter is my new hand and nail treat - a little goes such a long way! Along with getting my hair in shape for my wedding, I’m also working on getting my hands looking good too as I know that they’ll be on display. smile
