Hi everyone,I’ve just joined although have been reading your forums for months.Basically I’m confused!! How do I know what curl type I am? My hair, product free just resembles a birds nest with random curls. With product I can vary from 3a to 3c depending on the day, someday’s it’s a mix of all three!! Secondly porosity;my hair takes hours to dry which means high porosity?? But hair dyes never last especially on the grey hair which must mean low porosity, doesn’t it? Thirdly the protein issue. When I lasted visited a hairdresser (12 months ago, don’t get me started on hairdresser massacres!) he said my hair was damaged with little elasticity and needed protein but I feel my hair is quite coarse and has far too much volume with what I’ve read on these forums this means I should avoid proteins! Can anybody out there in Britishcurlies help with an idiot proof answer? And if anyone has a similar hair type recommendations on what they do and cheap high street products would be a bonus as I’m on a limited budget! Ooh and how long should it take before I see results? Thank you

So, I have been an addicted of everything that is said in the curl name for the last couple of weeks, and as I lernt so much from shared experiences of other curly ladies here on the forum, I thought about trying and share mine to.

So, I used to be happy and without a problem in the world up until last summer.
I have been colouring my hair since I was 14 and nothing noticeable happened except for the fact I was a happy ginger. Then I change my colourist and doom falls on my pretty little curls :(

The picture attached is an unmerciful before/after.
More than just the curls, my hair has clearly endured a density loss, even though I haven’t notices hair loss per se, but still, their body has clearly diminished.
So now, on the quest to recover body and curls, I commenced by journey into the curly.
At the time of the first picture I was pretty happy with the Aveda Be Curly range. Little did I know about proteins back then but I now realise my hair must like that stuff a lot, probably over moisturising alone.

So, days of research and online retail therapy later, I am now trying to work and get back my curls!
I am not going CG yet as I want to do something specific for the hair thinning I have noticed, so at the moment I am on Nioxin 4 system and Kerastase Densi-recharge. I will try and see to stay on those for the recommended 8 weeks (unless something goes really wrong).

In these 2 weeks waiting for allll the products I ordered to come (and satin pillowcases, and the curls like us towels) I went back to the Aveda Be Curly Conditioner and Enhancer (although this last one still comes with cones) and I noticed my hair being a bit happier already (must be the wheat protein!)
Now today, I went full throttle starting the Nioxin 4 program but also trying Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Treatment (which I left on for an hour)

Converted to the new styling product I trusted Emmab’s diar and followed her by using Beauticurls Leave-In Conditioner and MopTop Light Hold Anti-Frizz Gel. Not sure it’s the thing for me even though curls are in fact weel-defined and non-frizzy, but also seems to me like they’re weighted down a bit more than they used to with the Aveda (the single picture is me daring, and it’s from today)

I will stick to the Nioxin and Kerastase to see if more hair (hopefully curly) will come back around.

If anyone has suggestions/advices please, do tell

xx

Hi, my name is Thomas McMillan, I have a hair salon in Clapham with my wife Anita, called CoxMcMillan. I have specialised in cutting and working with curly hair for over 20 years (both natural and permed).
I love working with naturally curly hair of all types (but i’m afraid I don’t do Afro/Caribbean hair) and have curly hair myself.
Having experienced poor haircuts personally I truly understand the pains and frustrations of trusting someone to treat your curly hair well.
I charge £60 for Consultation, Cleanse (with hot towel & scalp massage), Cut & Dry. I am happy to offer a 15% discount to Clients who quote ‘BritishCurlies’.
I have joined Brirish Curlies purely on the recommendation of another member who’s hair I cut about 10 days ago.
I have been nominated for 8 British Hairdressing Awards, have featured in National and Trade magazines and our salon offers a really friendly, welcoming experience.
The telephone number is 0207 223 8888,
Address is :
40 Battersea Rise,
Battersea
SW11 1EE
We are close to both Clapham Junction(closer) overground as well as Clapham North and Clapham Common Underground.
Many thanks,
So here I am, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting involved in this kind of a project or whether you are someone who already does this and the problems you’ve faced etc.

You guys might be thinking “Who the hell is this weirdo? We don’t even know her” I don’t intend to go anywhere now that I’ve joined, it will be great to get to know all of you!

I’ve been natural for almost 15 months ,definitely enjoying it! Don’t think I could ever see myself going back!

Hi all

My daughter has natural hair and I am struggling keeping it moisturized. She has very dry scalp and hair no matter what product I use.

I am getting off the hair crack (3rd try) after watching Chris Rock’s Good Hair. I have and am struggling as I’ve always had long hair and having short hair and styling it is freaking me out.

I met someone in a shop who suggested this site so I am giving it another go. My hair is severely damaged after braiding it so I have no other choice now and ther is no going back.

I need to set an example for my daughter and want to get back the thick long hair that I had as a child.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I feel so lost…
