So I bought some linseeds AKA flax seeds a few months ago with good intentions. I got a bit turned off by some people saying how complicated it is to make FSG, but this evening I took the plunge. I put one tbsp of seeds into a pop sock and knotted it. Put into a pan with 2 cups of water and brought to the boil, stirring all the time. I boiled the mixture not too briskly for about 8 mins, stirring continuously. The mixture took on a cloudy appearance and started to thicken a bit. So I turned off the gas and poured the gel into little pots. When the stocking was cool I squeezed it and rubbed the gel that came off into my hair. The only thing I’ve added to my gel has been a few drops of Argan oil and 2 drops of lavender EO, the only EO I have! The gel is thickening a little as it cools but not too thick so far. I’ve heard of people using more seeds than that but those quantities I used were suggested on one blog called Crunchybetty. Let’s see how it turns out. I enjoyed making the FSG, and it reminded me of the days when I used to make soap and body butter and other stuff.

I will report back…

I’m sure this one’s been posted loads, but I did a concoction yesterday which I thought was worth posting about.

I’m new to going natural and have been trying to work out how to stop the frizzies. After loads of reading I decided that my hair was over conditioned and under protein’d. So, more research and I put together:

1 egg - beaten until frothy
1/2 avocado - mashed as well as I could
large glug olive oil
1 tbsp honey

Mixed it all together. Put it on cold (I learnt the hard way that with the egg in it, it’s NOT a hot oil treatment as I took it out of the microwave and it resembled a honey and avocado flavoured omelette - ). I did it dry this time round and because I chucked my shower cap yonks ago, I wrapped my hair in cling film. Then waited about 15-20 minutes and washed it all out.

I have to admit that my hair felt dry and i didn’t think it was going to work so I shampooed and did deep condishion and then styled as normal.

However, I have to say that my hair was really shiny and went from its normal 2b/c to easily 3a ringlets!

It did fall again by the end of the evening and, as it was our wedding anniversary, well suffice it to say by sleeptime there wasn’t much point in trying to save my curls, so I’ll have to start again today.

I think next time I’ll try it with clean damp hair and see what happens.

Im currently looking for a good-healthy-natural d.i.y spritz recipe, but after much research and too many recipes for my head to handle Iv picked a few ingredients so far for my dry coarse hair. I am also recovering from hair loss, hence all the essential oils are aimed at that, however the list below is what i’ve got so far but if anyone has any other suggestions It would be a huge help!

Herbs:

Marshmallow

Nettle

Horsetail

Essential Oil:

Lavender

Thyme

Cedarwood

Rosemary

I think I may just use distilled water, I would like to give aloe vera another shot however I remember it leaving my hair very dry for some reason either that or it wasn’t 100% organic?

Hi there,

I am currently using KCKT (kinky curly knot today) as a detangler / leave-in on my daughter’s very long tight ringlets. She has amazing hair and a lot of it. However as it grows and grows (a result of having found this site!) Im finding it increasingly hard to afford the bucket loads of conditioners and detangling products that we previously used. So my question is has anyone found any recipe that has a similar texture / application as KCKT that I might be able to make (in bulk) in my kitchen? Ive found that the gel like consistency works really well for when I am combing through tangles. I wondered whether flax seed gel might be a good texture and consistency?
Also can anyone recommend a recipe for a twisting butter that I could experiment with? Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance

I have ordered some powdered sea kelp, and have been looking at recipes to try. Here is one I have found:

Kelp Hair Treatment
Treat your hair to the benefits of kelp. Put 4 tbsp. of sweet almond oil in a small spray bottle and add 1/2 cup of coconut oil and 1 tsp. of dried kelp powder. Shake the bottle to mix, and apply it to the hair. Work it through the hair with your fingers, and leave it for a few hours before rinsing.

Another recipe I like:

Rosemary Honey Hair Conditioner
This nourishing conditioner blends honey for shine, olive oil for moisture and essential oil of rosemary to stimulate hair growth.

• 1/2 cup Honey
• 1/4 cup warmed Olive oil
• 1 tsp. Xanthan gum
• 4 drops of Essential Oil of Rosemary

Place all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. Pour into a clean plastic bottle with a tight fitting stopper or lid.
Apply a small amount at a time to slightly dampened hair.
Massage scalp and work mixture through hair until completely coated.
Cover hair with a warm towel (towel can be heated in a microwave or dryer) or shower cap; leave on to nourish and condition for 30 minutes.
Remove towel or shower cap; shampoo lightly and rinse with cool water.
Dry as normal and enjoy shinier, softer and healthier hair the natural way.

This recipe is courtesy of http://www.honey.com

I have tried a variation of honey and olive oils, with added essential oils, and it worked really well. So I expect this one will be great. I have some xanthan gum on order so I will let you know when I try this one
