I’ve never bought such an awful product and I’ve tried them all! I have 3b type hair, very thick, coarse anf frizzy. Very very disapointed. Has anyone else had the same experience?

DGJ Organics Hairjuice Clarifying Conditioner - oooh!

So I have been prowling the hair products aisles in search of CG products (chm - I will give you full deets for your thread! ) and I spotted this little beauty! (pic below).

What made me buy it was the fact that it contained Cocobetaine - which makes it a winner in the cleansing stakes for me. I haven’t been able to find anything that comes close to CJ Daily Fix (and it is still my fave!) because I haven’t been able to find any other cleansing conditioners that contain Cocobetaine.

I did pause as I was reading the ingredients, however, as I spotted an ingredient called ‘silica’. I figured it wasn’t necessarily a cone or derived from one but I had to check. I scoured the internet and I could find nothing conclusive - some silicones are derived from silica (Aveda derive some of their silicone ingredients such as dimethicone, dimethiconol and trimethicone from silica and clearly state this on the bottle). So I decided to contact DGJ Organics who told me to contact the manufacturer - Medichem. It has taken me a month to get an answer (mix up with email addresses and MD on holiday etc) but I got a response from the Managing Director himself this morning who assures me, and I quote, that:

“The only silica within this product is part of a water soluble vitamin complex. It is therefore water soluble and used to help add shine to the hair.”

Marvellous!

On to the review - am liking very much so far!

Consistency is pretty similar to Daily Fix, although perhaps not quite as thick and it feels a little lighter in texture. However, it does not smell like Daily Fix! I am pleased about this as I am desperate for anything that does not smell sweet or of coconuts but it does have a strong smell! It contains mandarin EO and rose extracts and that is exactly what is smells strongly of! I quite like it but those with a sensitive nose may not. For me, it applies and performs very similar to Daily Fix - I apply about the same quanitity overall and I add a fair bit of water to my hair as I apply the product to get it to ‘lather’ a little -although it does not ‘lather up’ as well as Daily Fix does with water and it does not feel as ‘thick and creamy’ in the hair. Rinses clean, with no ‘coated’ feel. Great!

Big thumbs up so far (have only used twice) will use whole bottle and report back.

Edit: Forgot to say: I bought in Waitrose - I don’t believe it is sold anywhere else.

Hi all,

So lack of funds and the discontuation of my two favorites high st products (original source mint tea tree conditioner for co-wash and boots coconut masque for deep condition) meant I went off CG and my hair now looks like a ratty straggly wavy mess :(

Time to start afress and choose some new products to get me going. It seems I tend to go for products others don’t like as the all time most amazing products I ever used on my hair were the Batia and Aleeza range that used to be sold on here. So I had the inspiration to list the ingredients in the hopes some of you with your wizard knowledge of ingredients might spot a similarity in another product I could try.

so the conditioner is:

Ingredients: Ginseng Extract, Gotu Kola Extract, Rosehips Extract, Spirulina Extract, Aloe Vera Gel, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Methyl Gluceth-10, Steapyrium Chloride, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Cholecaiciferol, Panthenol, Phytantriol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Cyclomethicone, Lactamide MEA, PEG-45M, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Propylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, DEA Methoxycinnamate, Benzophenone-4, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance.

the shampoo is:

Ingredients: Aloe Vera, Calendula Extract, Golden Seal Root Extract, Henna Extract, Hops Extract, Matricaria Extract, Quillaja Extract, Wild Cherry Bark Extract, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Panthenol, Phytantriol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Cholecaiciferol, Polyquaternium-4, Methyl Gluceth-10, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Sodium PCA, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein (and) Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Glycol Stearate, Sodium Chloride, Methylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance.
and finall the styling gel:

Ingredients: Water, Polyquaternium-11, Panthenol, Citrus Aurantium, Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Exract, Symphytum Officinale Leaf Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Propylene Glycol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Dimethicone Copolyol, Polysorbate 20, Polysorbate 60, Lactamide MEA, Disodium EDTA, Benzophenone-4, Methylparabin, Diazolidinyl Urea, Fragrance.

Thanks so much in advance for any help!

Hey guys, a friend of mine told me about some new curly products at http://www.ouidad.com and I was just wondering if anyone had tried any of the stuff? From what I can see most of the products have silicone but the deep conditioner seems to be ok (here are the igredients, if someone could tell me if its ok that would be great - I still get a bit mixed up with what is good and bad!):

Ingredients:

Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Sorbitol, Stearalkonium Chloride, Lactamide MEA, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Hydro-lyzed Soy Protein, Cystine Bis-pg-propyl Silantriol, Sodium PCA, Betaine, Glycine, Alanine, Proline, Serine, Threonine, Arginine, Lycine, Glutamic Acid, Myrist-amine Oxide, Polyquaternium-11, Butylene Glycol, Polyquaternium-59, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate.

Anyone tried this???

Also the double detangler ( http://www.ouidad.com/Double-Detangler) looks ace and gets amazing reviews - thought I’d share it with you as I spend like 20 mins in the shower trying to comb out my tangled knotted hair!

Thanks guys x

DevaCurl Heaven In Hair anyone?

Hi all. I had to dry my hair in a great hurry yesterday due to unexpected guests, and it was feeling and looking naff. So I decided to give my hair a treat with my new Heaven In Hair today. I’ve just given this a go for the first time. There seems to be some confusion about how it should be used! On the pot it says to use on damp hair, liberally. In reviews I’ve read, people are suggesting using it on soaking wet hair, and in dime sized dollops. Er, OK….... Then others are saying that you must follow it with a conditioner. Anyway, I rinsed mine out and it felt kind of oily, so I didn’t condition further. I added my FSG then thought maybe a bit of my Curl Assurance Smoothing Gellie wouldn’t go amiss. At this point my hair started to feel seriously hard and dry and yucky, so I panicked and belatedly smoothed through some KCKT. To no avail - my hair felt awful and it smells like cheap toilet cleaner (that’s the HIH). I pixie curled it and it’s now air drying. It looks and feels horrible, but let’s see. I’m hoping for a miracle

Anyone use HIH? Any tips?

Just about to start CG - Hairspray replacement?

Hi Guys,

So basically, I’m new to this and just about to start CG. One problem, I absolutely love hair spray. I use Silvikrin Natural Hold after using Umberto Giannini Scrunching Jelly and I use A LOT. I dont think it is CG friendly but was wondering what everyone else suggests? I feel if I don’t use hairspray then my hair wont hold.

Thanks

Boots Ingredients Coconut & Almond Intensive Conditioner

Wow! For this ‘cheapo’ product i didnt have very high hopes… but i’m happily surprised to say its really very good.
I grabbed it from Boots to keep me going until i finally choose some more expensive ‘quality’ rinse-outs/DTs, and slapped it on after my clarifying Aussie Moist poo (1st CG wash).

I used the IceQueen technique of scrunching it in and rinsing it out *upside down* in the shower (LOL, my head was upside down rather - i wasnt doing acrobatics in the shower!), and this really helped to start clumping and curl formation (another surprise - I thought the Icequeen method would be a waste of time, but it definitely made a positive difference).

The Coconut & Almond scent was lovely, perhaps slightly artificial smelling but still nice to the nose, and i was surprised at how little i needed to use to get the hair coated, slippy and feeling like seaweed. This may have something to do with the fact i just went CG and clarified all the nasty buildup of silicone from my hair, but i always had to use at least double that amount of conditioner before and my hair never felt that silky-slippy and saturated with moisture, even when using very rich, pricier DTs.

Upon rinsing my hair felt like spun silk - so sooo soft and as it began to dry i could see a definite healthy shine! - My hair is NEVER usually shiny… until now!

I went to bed and styled the next day, with a CG volumizing mousse and Boots pink curl creme and i got the prettiest, bounciest, healthiest waves iv ever experienced. Usually the volume iv diffused into my hair drops gradually throughout the day and my messy waves can look dull and over-producty, but the bounce, volume and wave definition stayed all through the day and i even had half acceptable 2nd day hair.

I credit my huge hair improvement to 3 things - Going CG in general (clarifying all that nasty silicone buildup out of my hair), the Boots Ingredients Coconut Almond Co, and the Boots Essentials Pink Curling Creme.
I cant give *all* the credit to the C&A co, but im convinced it played a big part in giving me the prettiest, bounciest, healthiest looking hair i’ve had for a lonnnggggg time, if ever.

I’ll keep playing and trying new products, but for now Boots C&A Co and pink curling creme are my hero CG products.
Who’d have thought such cheap products could give such great results?! - I’d never have dreamed of trying them before finding this site and going CG, b/c i thought the cheapy products would be pretty useless - i was so wrong!

Boots Botanics Instantly Hydrating Conditioner - pretty darn good!

Have used around half a tube of this now and am mightily impressed! It contains quinoa protein, which is what prompted me to try it, as I don’t believe I have used a product containing this protein before (certainly not to my knowledge). It is cheap (around £3.50), very moisturising and a little goes a long way (and that’s saying something from me!!) It is quite thick and has a reasonably strong floral fragrance that doesn’t linger. I found I didn’t need my usual huge amounts to get good coverage - it distributes well and ‘plumps and lathers’ up quite a bit. Upon rinsing, hair feels silky and well moisturised and hair feels similarly once dry. For a high street condish, it is excellent!

After using a couple of times, I thought I’d purchase another to use in my rotation. However, I found it quite tricky to find a store that had stock (found one tube only at Liverpool st station which was v annoying as they had a 3 for 2 offer on). I also noticed that Boots did not have much of the Botanics hair care range online (this condish was not listed). I thought perhaps they were just about to discontinue (sod’s law!) I asked the staff at Liverpool st about it and they didn’t know so I spoke with the manager. She told me that they have recently changed the packaging and haven’t had all the stock in yet (including online). I’ve just checked and Boots still don’t have it listed online - 4 weeks later (irritating - would be better for them to list it and explain that they are out of stock rather than no mention whatsoever!). I’ve also emailed Boots about their lack of online ingredients lists (have emailed them 3 times about it and have only just had a response). The usual, “will pass on info to Boots team for review” etc. They did, very helpfully, tell me that a full ingredients list can be found on the product itself.

Have attached a pic of the product for reference.

I got this several months ago, from the emporium and theres still so much left because I just can’t find a way to make it work….
I’ve tried it on wet hair and dry hair but it just seems to sit on top and look plasticy - it gives it an unnatural shine and stiffness that I don’t like. It does nothing to tame my frizz or define my curls.
I was surprisesd because it had such good reveiws from type 4’s and I am basically a type 4 but looser and with less density
Has anyone else had more success with this product, how do you use it can you suggest any different ways that might work better for me?

Thanks
