What curly type am I??

Could someone help me decide what hair type I am please? I think I’m between 2c and 3a ish, I’ve attached a few pics over the years styled slightly differently - not sure if that will help or hinder!

I am tempted to go for the co washing idea but need to do some research first!

My hair is fine, quite a bit of it but it goes very flat on top unless I get the diffuser in there or do a blowdry. I don’t use conditioner on a daily basis, love the feel but I lose the volume. Tend to do an intensive every 2/3 weeks but thats it. Think it’s highly porous as it gets wet quick, dries quick, use very little product on it, just a heat protector spray.

Avocado, olive oil and honey treatment

Hi all - apologies if somebody’s already written about this BUT…......
For the past couple of washes I have done a pre-treatment which has worked really well for me so I thought I’d share the love! You need

1 ripe avocado
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon honey

Whizz it up in a blender (you can mash it but you may get lumps of it falling out of your hair). Apply to dry hair avoiding the roots if you have oily hair. Stick a shower cap and leave in for a minimum of 30 minutes then wash and condition as usual. It left my hair incredibly shiny, soft and very touchable, no frizz at all. I’ve also been using the Liz Earle shampoo which is also giving lots of shine.

Enjoy! x

Knotty hair.

Okay well I have wavy hair, but I do get a few ringlet type curls, and some straighter bits underneath. It seems to be very random.

Anyway, I could go for like, 3 days without washing because now my hair doesn’t look greasy until then. The problem is, my hair gets really knotty. Like, really matted and horribly hard to comb out.
I use Samy (pink bottle) shampoo, and either a naked conditioner or the boots hair mask conditioner. A couple of days ago my sister bought the Fat 0 calories Samy shampoo/conditioner, so I’ve used that twice now and my hair is exactly the same.

I’m pretty sure I could get natural dreadlocks within 2 weeks if I just left my hair xD

Is there anything I can do to stop this knotting from happening? I’ve tried the pineapple thing at night before, but it makes my hair really stick up in the morning. I find it harder to control then. Plaiting at night just ruins the curl I have, and looks odd when I take them out in the morning. I
just don’t know what to do!

Here’s some photos from tonight, after washing and leaving to dry naturally:
Newbie Looking for advice!

Just stumbled across this site today and the information is brilliant if a little daunting lol!

Ive had ‘curly’ hair from birth and gone through teenage years of different styles, straightening, chopping it off etc etc - in despair of frizz and lack of definition.

More recently I’ve had two little boys and again pregnancy seems to have added to the downfall of my hair - ive had alot of breakages and its gone very dull and lifeless (boys are 7 months and 2.5 years), also alot of dandruff, flaky scalp.

I wonder if any of you girls would help me to know where to start or what to try first???

From what Ive read I MAY have cherub curls, mainly 2c but with some 2b and 3a curls (it can be quite straight by my neckline), my hair takes ages to dry but takes colour easily (havent coloured for 3 years) so i’m assuming medium porosity? Texture Im also saying medium because im unsure at this stage. When I pull it it does have some stretch then breaks/snaps.

Current regime is to shampoo in head and shoulders and to condition in whatever i have in then to comb/brush, add moose and leave

What should I try / do first do you think?

Could I have Cherub curls?

Hi - I just joined this forum today and I’d never heard of ‘Cherub’ curls before - but I’m wondering if that is my hair type! Could you possibly let me know what you think, please?

When I was a child - from birth, really - I had tight, fine ringlets. They loosened as I got older, but my hair has always stayed quite fine and (with enough moisture!) very soft. The comment that Cherub curls are ‘like a child’s hair’ sounded a bit like me! It flies away very easily, and for as long as I can remember I’ve had lots of little hairs that stand out around my head.

When I wash my hair and let it air-dry, especially outside in the breeze, my hair falls into big, loose spiral curls: I look like a definite 2c and maybe even a 3a in places. But the minute I comb my hair, they fall apart and my hair just looks wavy. If I actually brush it then it ends up mostly straight, with ripples. Quite often, they’re gone just as soon as I’ve slept on them.

I’ve never had any problem growing my hair, though, and I don’t know if the fact that the curl falls straight very easily is really part of it, or just a sign that my hair isn’t *very* curly?

Thank you!

Curl Queen Disaster Wavy Hair

Hi fellow curlies,
Stuck in a real rut at the moment with my fine, wavy mess of hair. I can’t seem to get it to curl very well at all at the moment. I’ve tried Curl Queen for the 2nd time today and hair came out awful. Washed with CHS Hair Treatment Shampoo (only shampoo once a week), condish with AO GPC, applied about 4 x 10p blobs to past shoulders hair when really wet and scrunched, then wrapped in old tshirt and air dried. Hair just looked really limp and greasy/oily and took ages to dry. On the plus side it was very soft with no frizz or crunch but no curl either. I normally wet with water spray every morning, apply a little pink curl creme and then some lightweight gel (shock waves) but I always end up pinning the top layers back as the curl tends to lurk underneath. Tempted to get a 2/3 inches cut off and some more layers put in to encourage more curl. Maybe it was the conditioner/curl queen combo or my hair just doesn’t like curl queen? Any wavies had the same problem?

Brushing Question

The CG Handbook says that brushing should be totally avoided, and I agree for the most part- which is brushing when the hair is dry (triangle time for me!).

However, I have a side parting and it doesn’t fall naturally like that, so I have always brushed it in when my hair is soaking wet/coated with some leave in/FSG. I’m not overly keen on reverting back to middle part ways, I suppose I’m a bit scared of it in a way.

I was wondering if any other wavies (I’m an swavy/wavy/some Botticelli curls girl) or curlies found similar? I’m worried that I’m damaging it somehow.

Thanks in advance!
Beth

Cherub Curls and Uniform Layers

Just for your opinions girls, on if cherub curls suit uniform layers (or vice versa lol).

I have cherub curls, and I’m having my hair cut into uniform layers on Friday.

If you have cherub curls and uniform layers I’d love to see pics of how your hair looks.

Thank you!!

Confused.co.uk

Helloo!

I’m only about a week into attempting to transform my hair from straw-like frizzball with a bit of curl to, at the very least, non-frizzy waves. I’ve never been very interested in hair and messing with it and I’m a bit clueless generally, but I’ve finally decided that I want decent curls so I’ll have to learn. I’ve got a few questions that I could do with a bit of a hand on. Here we go:

1. I can’t work out my porosity. I’ve read all of the threads on here (most of them twice!) but am still not sure. I tried that method of running my fingers up a strand to see if it will catch, but I would describe the sensation as bumpy on one hair I tried (which seemed quite thick and coarse to me!) and smooth on another (which appeared quite fine!!). My hair does get wet very quickly and also dries very fast and it’s coloured (seems to take the colour well), but I am trying the Moptop stuff at the moment and I felt that it just made my hair feel dry and fluffy, yet I’ve read that it has protein…I’m completely confused!

2. I can’t work out if I’m fine or coarse or a bit of both. I’d always thought it was very thick, but I’ve recently decided that it’s actually fine, but there’s a lot of it. Again, the strands I’ve checked seem to be different - is it normal to have a mix?

3. Is there a transition period to go through when you go CG? I’m having mixed results every day. I’m just using the Tresemme naturals conditioner, being careful not to over-dry with my towel (still using a normal one, but using it to scrunch excess water out, not too much), leaving a little bit of conditioner it in and then using gel to style. What I’m reasonably sure of now is that the Mop Top stuff (I bought the travel pack to try) doesn’t work for me - at least the gel and detangler doesn’t. I’ve gone back to using Gianni’s Flirty Curls, even though I’m not sure the ingredients are okay, but it seems to be the only thing that gets me close to what I want. Anyway, different day, different results despite trying the same routine, but mostly my hair still feels a bit straw-like and fluffy. Do I need to hang on in there for a few weeks/months before it starts to kick in, or do I need to try new products/techniques?

I think that’ll do for the questions for now! I’m sure I’ve got loads more, but they are the most pressing at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Coarse type 2 hair reacted badly to protein

Hello folks

I got myself into a mess and I need some advice. Before we start, I’ll admit that it’s my own fault for trying something new and for trying something that I read doesn’t always go well for people with coarse hair, but in my defence I had tried some protein masks such as mayonnaise or olive oil in the past without any problems.

Tale of woe commences….

On Thursday, as a treat, I put a protein mask in my hair: 1 egg, some mayonnaise, some olive oil. Since then my hair has been awful; it feels hard and crunchy, has no definition or even much in the way of waves, is frizzy, isn’t shiny, waves won’t clump, and my canopy has gone nearly straight.

Things I’ve tried since Thursday to fix the hair:
- Coconut Oil overnight
- Jojoba Oil overnight
- Spraying strong, homemade leave-in conditioner in it
- AVG spritz
- Conditioner in hair with shower cap for a couple of hours
- Logona after-colour conditioner - on the basis that the conditioners you get with a hair colour are usually really good
- Conditioner & jojoba oil for a few hours followed by repeatedly rinsing it in a strong infusion of hibiscus flower, camomile flowers, and burdock root.

It is a little less hard that it was immediately after the protein mask on Thursday but nothing like it used to be. The only layer of my hair that’s behaving even vaguely like it should is the hair below my ears and at my nape, although it’s still frizzier than it used to be. I’m avoiding shampoo and I’m cowashing. I’m putting at least 3 times the leave-in that I would normally use but my hair still won’t clump, it still feels hard, and it looks frizzy. I’m baffled as to what to do.

To be honest, I’m feeling really low because of it; my own stupidity has sent me back to the beginning of CG again, cos my hair feels just like it did when I first tried CG: out of control and unpredictable. And it took me quite a number of weeks to feel comfortable with CG so it’s disheartening to start again. None of my wee tricks and tips that I’ve learned over the last 6 weeks are working on my hair at the moment and I feel so frustrated. I nearly took the straighteners to it this morning but my husband talked me out of it - he told me to stick with my natural texture

Can anyone offer any advice on how I can fix my hair? I’m not looking for an instant fix, although that would be fantastic LOL, because I know that’s probably not possible, but has anyone done anything similar and, if so, how long did it take for your hair to go back to normal? BTW, just to make things difficult, I have skin sensitivity problems so I use natural or organic products, as they have less chance of giving me rashes etc, so I tend to avoid most of the haircare products available on the High Street.

......Tale of woe ends

I’d be so grateful for some encouragement or help.

PS I even changed my Avatar pic cos seeing my previous hard-won waves was too miffing LOL.
