How often do you cut your hair?

It will soon be coming up to the 3 month mark since I had my hair cut. My CG hairdresser advised that I should have it cut every 3 months. I’ve ignored his advice twice and left my hair for 8 months the last time and boy was my hair annoyed! I ended up losing more length than I would have liked due to leaving it I think. I will be in the vicinity next month so I’m wondering whether to have it cut, even though the style still has shape and the ends aren’t dry (but I do have just over a month to go). How often do you have your hair cut?

Hi! Just discovered this website.. just wondered if anyone could help me with some product recommendations or ideas on how to control my crazy hair!??

I’ve attatched a pic just shampoo’d and conditioned with vo5 ‘nourish me truly’, no products just left to dry natural.. I usually put extensions in and use vo5 heat protection spray, then use curlers to make my hair into ringlets, but I don’t want to have to do all that every day :(

it’s really really fine but there’s lots of it, i get my hair highlighted so its not in the best condition haha, just wish it would go into soft ringlets instead of messy frizz!

The last 5 years my hair is very thick and not so wavy. I use products for curly girls but I get a nice result only the first day. Any opinions???
I use jc cleansing cream, too Shea, deep conditioner, rockin ringlets and cj curl rehab & curls in a bottle.
Sorry for mistakes but my English are really bad!!!

Back after a 2 year relapse!

Hello everyone,

I was on here a couple of years ago trying to go back to my natural curly hair but really struggled. However I am back and ready to really try again. I believe I have 2b, fine and highly porous hair. What products would be good? I’ve read protein would be good? Also I don’t want products that are too heavy as my curls weigh down so easily. I am ready to try CG again (didn’t get good reults last time) and have been having trims to get rid of the truly damaged hair.

Thanks for all your help!

How long before CG method shows improvement?

Hi, I’m a new CG convert and I’m just wondering roughly how long it takes hair to get over the shock of the change in hair care regime and to start looking better. I realise this is specific to my hair type and condition, and I expected it to start looking worse before it gets better, but can anyone give me a rough idea of how long that’ll take?

I seem to have a mixture of wavy and s’wavy hair, with the odd curl tucked underneath at the back. I have very thick, coarse, highly porous hair and it’s quite damaged on top from colouring, straightening and tying back too tightly. It’s obvious that I have nicer, more defined clumpy curls and waves underneath, whereas the top layer is stringy, frizzy, dry and hardly holds a wave at all!

I only started doing the CG method 12 days ago and am busy doing lots of deep conditioning and trying new products. I’ve ditched brushes and am trying to avoid tying my hair back so the natural wave has a chance to reform. But I have to say it looks terrible most of the time, just massive amounts of frizz and crazy dry flyaway waves. I’m worried this will go on for months - any thoughts? Do I have to wait for new hair to grow in, or can the old hair be salvaged?

It would also be good to get any advice on hair styles to help me get through the transition without damaging my new hair or looking quite so crazy. I have a wedding to go to in under 2 weeks!

Plus, I’d like to get my hair cut at some point but want to wait until my wave has settled in (it seems to be getting more curly rather than wavy). Any recommendations for how to decide on hair cuts and when to go to a hair dresser? Currently my hair is about 2 inches below my shoulder blades and I’m undecided about whether to go for a shorter cut to take some weight off the waves or whether longer will look smarter.

Many thanks!

Curls underneath getting closer and closer to straight as I get to the top

In an effort to understand my hair more I decided to try and give it a gunk free day yesterday (I am off work this week so I could do this risk free). I gave it a sulfate wash and then conditioner with a blob of honey, rinsed out. Then all I did was add some more conditioner afterwards, comb through and scrunched, but let air dry to see what would happen.

The result was as I remembered it from days gone by. It was a little frizzy but actually mostly fluffy to the point where it became a mess. Over the course of the day it then puffed out more and more. I have tried to attach a photo but I can’t seem to reduce it enough to attach .

Eventually I rewetted my hair and added some boots pink, which gave it some definition and control.

On the virgin hair, I also did 2 strand tests, underneath there was some curl pattern, but it wasn’t uniform all the way through, more like a 2c, I’d say with some kinks in it. That was from the middle of my hair. I also took a strand from the top and that was almost straight, so I’d call that a 2a.

Has anyone else got hair that performs like this? If so, what are your routines? and what do you do for day 2? I am sleeping on a makeshift satin pillow and have put together a water/lavender/olive oil spritz. I used that today, but still had to work it through my hair and I still got the halo of frizz at the crown. I’ve tried to control it with more boots pink, but it’s not a great look and mostly looks messy. Not sure I could rock that look at work - lol!

E xx

Cherub tendencies

I’ve had a bit of an epiphany - I think my hair has cherub tendencies. It’s been cut and coloured today, and my hairdresser just put through a light serum for styling. So it’s pretty much in its natural state. I’d forgotten how light and fluffy and flyaway my hair is! I might visit the Cherub section in the CG Handbook to see if I can pick up some tips!

Curl Junkie products (or other fave products) ?

Hey guys.

I’m thinking my routine needs a bit of a shake up!! I finally tried the CJ daily fix and its ah-mazing. As my hair is on the finer side (and prob 2b/c - but can go straight quite easily) I don’t need a rinse out. I haven’t even been using a leave in. No idea what that says about my hair though.

What CJ products do you find work for you? I find it quite hard to find products for my hair type and often wonder if things like the honey butta leave in are just no nos for us even if we just use a teeny bit.

Would be good if other similar curlies would list their likes and dislikes so we can all compare notes

xxx

So far my “hits” have included: CJ Smoothing lotion leave in and Daily Fix.
Mehs for me were - strengthening conditioner, CCCC, aloe fix gel
Misses were CQ gel, CIAB (was great at first but got awful build up)

Is it really bad to comb wavy hair?

Hi, I’ve just started the CG method this week and finally abandoned my straighteners after years of using them daily. I’ve tried a few different ways of styling my hair wavy with different products but the result is always the same, it ends up stringy, crunchy, and limp, so I always end up combing it once it’s dry to sortof clump it back together and bring the volume back, this takes alot of the curl out but I think it looks better than the stringy flatness which I even get if I use no product at all but just let it air dry. I read you shouldn’t comb curly hair when dry, is that true for wavy hair too and why? I don’t really know what else to do with it =(

‘Plopping’ all the way until dry - and short layers?

Hi! Definite 2c/3a cherub curly here! I’ve always had really straight roots, down to the ears, and then ringlets forming after that: even with virgin hair, Boots curl creme/aloe vera gel and a gorgeous layered cut from Thomas at CoxMcmillan, I’ve never been able to get the top to curl or wave. But a couple of nights ago I washed my hair before bed (I usually do it in the morning) then parted it, pineappled it, and went to sleep. I woke up to waves and curls from root to tip for the first time ever!

I reckon I usually can’t get the top to curl because my hair is so fine and my curl-pattern so delicate. When my hair dries supported by a pillow, the curl can set without being pulled straight by gravity and its own weight. So I’m just wondering… do you think that getting even more layers cut in, and plopping my hair all the way through from damp to dry, would create the same effect? I’m thrilled that the top of my hair *can* curl, but not so keen on going to bed with sopping wet hair every time I want to wash it!
