I find that mixing a couple drops of shampoo into my normal CO-wash gives me added cleansing without stripping. I always run some jojoba or coconut oil through the lengths of my hair beforehand though, just in case.

This is what I have been doing for several months most washes….mainly cos co-washing took AGES in my hair as it was really thick and just never seemed to get cleaned unless I spent around 30mins co-washing (not counting everything else!). It works well…I use a cheap co-wash, and a cheap sulphate poo (no cones) and these work well together.

Hello ladies

I’m reviving this post as I need help.  I have decided after a break of almost two months to go back to the gym.  In the past whenever I have gone my hair was either relaxed, in extensions or weave and many moons ago during one of my natural hair phases, I kept my hair in small twists but never looked after it properly so was never concerned about my hair after a workout but now, my hair is free and I am working with it.  I either have it in big plaits / twists ready for twist outs / braid outs.

The idea of having to rinse my hair through 3 times a week to get rid of sweat after the gym is not one I relish as my hair takes forever to dry but having read articles on dry shampoos and certain ingredients they contain, they don’t seem like a good option.  I can see myself going back to small twists but this time I will look after it and moisturize regularly.  What do the rest of you slow hair drying exercise bunnies do to freshen your hair please?

This is going to sound really awful….but I don’t actually rinse my hair after gym.

I go to gym 3 times a week for about an hour per session. I’ve normally got my hair in braids or twists, with twists just pack up for gym and afterwards sort of leave them out to ‘air.’ I moisturise and seal before bed though to replenish the scalp and counteract the effects of the salt. Sometimes add a few drops of Tea Tree to cleanse the scalp.

I did go through a phase where I was co-washing after each gym session but I got major breakage, I mean I’d just run my fingers through my hair and I’d have a palm full of broken strands. Had to drastically cut my hair (3-4 inches) to get that sorted.

Also because I don’t co-wash but still moisturise and seal I use light products like curls milkshake and coconut oil to avoid excess build up and greasiness.

The key thing is finding a balance and routine that suits your hair - you may find that unlike me you’re happy with to co-washing at least once a week in addition to your normal routine. Just beware of over doing it!

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses ladies smile

Catz - Ouch!  I feel for you having to cut 4 inches of hair after the breakage but thanks for the feedback.  I really have no desire to wash my hair 3 times a week, once is enough.  I’m already using tea tree in my spritz so your advice is a great help.

Was a bit reluctant to say I didn’t - others always go in the shower with shampoo/conditioner but what works - works.
