I try not to put much stock the the curl size classification (I’m more interested in the elasticity, porosity, density etc.) but what about Rustic Beauty on youtube? She refers to herself as a 4bc, I think?

And Cynthiarf (3c4ab), shes the first youtuber I’ve seen with a density similar to mine, her videos are VERY helpful.

hey lela7!

just wanted to say a big thank you for recommending adornment in brixton.

i went there today with my daughter and they really explained to me what is best for my hair, after also having a good look at my “tired” scalp!

i was told to use leave in conditioners with moderate protein, not to dry the hair out too much. the stylist also recommended i should take cod liver oil as an oil rather than the capsules am taking at the moment (this is for hydrating the scalp).

i also need to drink more water, which i always knew, but now that i know it definitely affects my scalp and hair, i will FORCE myself to drink at least 2 litres every day!

these are the products i purchased on your recommendation (and hat it confirmed by the stylist) lela7:
qhemet Amla & Olive Heavy Cream
qhemet Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee for my daughter in particular
qhemet Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm for styling

i have also purchased the aubrey organics honeysuckle shampoo and conditioner and the dary bontaicals leave in conditioner thanks to keisha’s recommendation.

the stylist explained that the reason why we should stay away from mineral oil, lanolin, beeswax and petrolatum is because these might “block” your pores from receiving any moisture. this applies especially to type 4 hair.

in order to keep your scalp hydrated she also recommended olive oil and jojoba oil, preferrably mixed with some water.
i have now finally decided on which products i will use regularly (my daughter and i will use the same products, all fully organic) and am excited!! thanks so much for all your help!

Hi Tami!
Glad I could help!
I think that place is a god send for type 4 and type 3 who have no idea what to do with their hair. It helped me soooooooo much with my problems, so I recommend to every type 4 and type 3.  All the stylists are walking advertisements for having amazing looking natural hair! I love looking at what they are doing 2 their hair!

They have the hydrating balm in stock! I really want it and I must go 2 get one! When I was there, they didn’t have any, so I’ve never tried it! I’d love to know how u find it and if it works well to give lots of moisture.

Glad u mentioned it!  The ghee is awesome! When I was transistioning, it helped a lot.  Now, I rarely use it because for some reason, using the heavy cream in the long term, (with a wide tooth comb and altering my styling techniques), had resulted in my hair being less tangled!

I drink a lot of water anyway, but its not that hard to get in a lot. I drink at least 1 cup with meals, and with snacks.  If u cut out drinking soft/fizzy drinks for water, u find yourself getting in more. The cod live oil thing also helped me, so its worth giving it a try!

Things got a lot easier for me after their help!
