So glad your hair is recovering, Mich - and that you got such great results from the Logona hair colour! When your hair has fully recovered, you could try protein experiments. For example, you could try avoiding all protein for a couple of weeks (or more) and then use something like AOGPB as a rinse out (just leaving in for a couple of mins) and then seeing how your hair reacts (I would recommend using a moisturising condish (like AOHR) straight after for a couple of mins also). That way you can better determine how your hair truly reacts to protein (in hair products). Then perhaps you could try using stylers with protein and see how they work out etc. HTH!

I know it’s been quite a while since “The Great Protein Disaster of 2010” wink but I wanted to let you know that I’ve followed your advice and my hair is in much better condition for it. I bought, and have used religiously, AOHR - it is a great product and makes my hair much happier. I can even use it for DTs and it makes a visible difference to the condition of my hair smile

I am still little too nervous to try the AOGPB (I will probably work up to it at some point) but I did take your advice not to give up on protein entirely: I tried a protein experiment, which worked well for me, and I’m very happy with the results. The homemade protein treatment has left my hair feeling very soft, silky, shiny, and with much less frizz/bushy-ness than usual smile Given that my hair is incredibly protein-sensitive, and that others might have the same problem, I thought I’d post the details:

INGREDIENTS
50g aloe vera gel
1/2 teaspoon jojoba oil
30mls apple cider vinegar
25g powdered skimmed milk

1. Combine ingredients in a bowl, stirring well to blend.
2. Apply to damp hair.
3. Leave hair for 30 minutes under a plastic cap and towel.
4. Rinse very thoroughly with lukewarm water, giving the scalp a really good massage/rub.
5. Condition (with something very moisturising) and style as usual

That’s great news! So glad your treatment worked out for you. Your hair seems to be OK with milk protein - AOGPB also contains milk protein (as well glycoprotein - from oyster shells).

Oooh, that’s good to know, thank you for that info smile

If the protein from the milk powder that I tried in my homemade treatment had a good effect there’s a chance that my hair won’t hate the AOGPB. I’ll treat myself to some next month and follow your previous advice on how to apply it.

Hi , crashing this thread late, but I though I’d ask you how you used the AOHR condish to recover from the protein overload, as a similar thing has just happened to me. What i’d like to know is if you used the AOHR as a long DT, or as a quick rinse out? and how often you washed and or conditioned untill your hair recovered.

Thanks

Hello

I’ve given up using protein in my hair now, apart from the occasional DT with CURLS green tea deep conditioner (it has some soya protein and my hair likes it). To get my hair back to normal after the protein disaster, I did weekly DTs:

4 TBsp AOHR
1TBsp AVG
1TBsp honey

Mixed ingredients together, heated the mixture for 20 seconds in the microwave, applied to damp hair, covered with plastic cap, covered with heat wrap, and left it on my hair for 30 minutes at the very least. I shampooed afterwards because I have a very oily scalp, if you have a dry scalp you might be able to just rinse it out.

I also did DTs in which I applied virgin coconut oil to damp hair, covered hair with plastic cap, heated hair with hairdryer on medium heat for 5 minutes, shampooed (you might be able to CO wash).

Hope this info helps :D
