I think I’ve finally worked out my hair type. I reckon 4a?? That’s going from the info on the main site, where it says “Type 4A, tightly coiled hair that when stretched has an “S” pattern, much like curly hair” (I hope I’m not infringing on copyright!! EEK!) I was looking at webpage on curl types and it had a picture of Kelis. I think my hair is most like this: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_lWc15qI7k0w/STj3-8udgMI/AAAAAAAAAts/m3jfW2lQaA8/s400/kelisc31.jpg

I just wish I could get the front of my hair to stay as defined as hers in that photo. It is the frizziest part. I’m on 2 day hair today, with that front bit playing up. I just had a go with a sample of Darcy’s Botanicals Jelly that I’ve had for a few months, but I don’t think it’s really done anything for me. It has reduce frizz a little bit, but I think I may have made my hair more frizzy in applying it. :(

It’s actually the hair at the back of my head, or rather the bottom half of my head that is most well behaved, considering i sleep on it etc etc, yet it retains it’s shape and stays nice until I wash again. Maybe because it is less a victim of the environment than the top half of my head?

Hi and Happy New Year to anyone dropping by my diary!

This Thursday it’ll be a year since I went natural!! Woohoo! Glad I kept it up, I’m not the most patient of people. Hopefully 2011 will be a good hair year! :D

I just also treated myself to some Mixed Chicks leave in and Komaza Califa moisturiser spray, which is what I’ve been using on my hair of late. I had the Komaza left over from a sample I bought earlier in the year. It was lovely on my hair, but for the cost:size of bottle ratio, works out quite expensive. Oh, and VAT goes up at midnight doesn’t it? Hair is about to get expensive!! eek! Oh well :/

The Komaza seems to get rid of the crunchyness that you normally get with MC leave in. I’ve been letting my hair get more frizzy and afro looking as of late, but the last two times I washed my hair the curls have been mega defined. And the bit of frizz at the front of my hair seems to go away somewhat if I tie back my hair and wet it. After a day of it being tied back tight the frizz is almost gone, so I can wear my hair down for another day or two. I prefer it that way to a ponytail.

It’s quite funky looking today. Curls doing what they please. I’ve always been a bit worried about people’s reactions to it, why I don’t know. Because of that I’ve tended to try and make my hair as styled as possible, “smart” I guess. Pleasing to other eyes. But now I don’t really care if people are looking and making comments. The important thing is that I like it and am comfortable with it. Closed minds, it would be boring if we all looked the same.

So I am looking forward to my one year hairiversary :D and glad I kept it up. Read this earlier and apparently it’s all just a trend: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/wavy-hair-type-2/going-natural—everyones-doing-it

Hmmm… we’ll see! wink

Your hair loks lovely, strong and healthy.
You are right about the comments and looks though. if you feel comfortable with how your hair looks then that is all that matters. You are the only one in your skin and under your hair anyhow smile

Happy hairiversary!!!

Thanks thenaprika!!

Thought I’d upload some photos today of my hair a year on. Today I discovered that my camera has a self-timer, so I have seen the complete back of my head for the first time!! LOL! Not as shocking as I thought it might be :] I think there’s definitely been some growth comparing it to my avatar, taken in June, so that is pleasing. I’ve also uploaded one of my hair as I’ve started wearing it, letting it get big. I managed to go 7 days with just a dampening up mid-week refresh (a what?! haha), basically just scrunching in some water to the front of it to re-activate the mixed chicks. If I really pile it on my curls are superdefined at the start of the week, and as they become less defined they are not as frizzy towards the end of the week. It’s also meant that I’ve been able to use my scarves in my hair smile

Today I cut off a considerable amount of hair. I noticed that one side looked a lot longer that the other, so kept snipping and snipping, but it still looks longer. I thought that maybe I was just standing in a funny position, or it was because I had been taking photos of myself with one arm higher than the other. So cue lots of me perfecting my posture in front of the mirror and camera for a good half and hour!! In the end I had to stop cutting in case I cut off too much. It’s better then before though. Though maybe I will just need to finally visit a hairstylist!

TTFN! :D
