Hi,
I swim quite a lot. I’m going to buy a swimming cap & apply conditioner before I get in the pool (recently read that it will help the hair - along with soda water prior to the swim, but can’t be pfaffed with that) to protect my hair as I haven’t to date. I want to buy a good chlorine ridding shampoo & wondered if anyone’s able to tell me if AO Swimmer’s Shampoo is CG please?
Many thanks!
Sam

Hi samk - All the Aubrey Organics shampoos are free from harsh sulphates. A ‘CG’ regime means you wash with conditioner only.

Ah….missed rather an important point somewhere along the line smile Thanks for that!! So do CG chlorinated pool swimmers just use conditioner to wash out do you know?

You can definitely use a conditioner to cowash out the chlorine and some swimmers also swear by using soda water to rinse out after swimming - and before cowashing.

I’ve read that the best conditioner to rid hair of chlorine is one that contains disodium EDTA as it chelates the chemicals out of your hair. Not sure which (high street) conditioners contain it but you could try googling.

I’ve just put this in another thread, but I agree about the soda water.  As I understand it, you wet your hair thoroughly with any old water before exposing it to the chlorine, so your hair doesn’t absorb the chlorinated water.  Then rinse it out thoroughly with soda water after.

Hair likes: Ultra Swim shampoo, Abeni Dream Cleanser and Abeni light conditioner, oils and glycerine
Hair hates: aloe vera, gels of any kind, most conditioners (scalp issues)

Hey, I swim a lot too and its destroying my hair! I struggle to fit all my hair in a swimming cap so it always ends up getting chlorine in it, although I do wet it before I put my cap on. I was just wondering if you had tried the soda water rinse as suggested below? Did it make a diference??

Hey thanks, I might give it a go too - though I might get some funny looks at my local baths with my big bottle of soda water ha ha. Mind you I get funny looks anyway, first for wetting my hair before I even put my hat on (not sure most people get that as they always look at me like I’m mental!) and then when I try to cram my masses of hair under a wee tiny cap! Then I end up looking like an alien as my cap is so tight it pulls my face all tight ha ha! Ah the joys of having curly hair… Oh yes, and my cap is bright iluminous pink as thats all they had - and then the very next day I look over and they have much less garish blues. and greens and reds… typical.
So yeah, I’ll report back and please do too. I really need something to try help my hair deal with all this chlorine as its a big dry mess again now, argh!!
