Today’s weather: 70/52, dewpoint 43

cowash: Inecto Pure Coconut Oil Conditioner
rinse-out: CJ Curl Assurance smoothing conditioner
leave-in: same
styling: same as yesterday

Still got a flat top (bah!), but definition and shine is still awesome today.

Also - figured out how to hide my face in a pic (the internet freaks me out some days, nothing personal), so here’s a few photos!  The one with the smiley is a few days ago - just nice bouncy curls.  The one from the back is yesterday - no scraggly bits, a good moisture/protein balance, and overall nicely formed curls.  The other is today - the SHINE, oh, the SHINE. :-D

all gorgeous!  grin

Haha trust me, there’s frizz, especially by this point in the day.  I should take a pic later on (rather that right after drying) and show off the frizz bomb my hair becomes then…

Are those essentially just butterfly clips?

They look similar but behave diffently - they don’t ‘clamp down’ like regular butterfly clips. They are very light weight with a gently grip - difficult to explain. Check out the visuals:

http://www.britishcurlies.co.uk/articles/article/roller_jaw_clamps_get_lifted/

Now it makes sense! I also thought they were just those normal butterfly clips smile Thanks CT

They certainly look regular ones - but are so different!  grin

Ooooooh they look sort of like a cross between butterfly clips and octopus clips… big and round but not tight.

Darn you CrystalTips - I just got an order in today and have sworn off buying more hair stuff till I’m out of nearly EVERYTHING this time (co-wash excepted)!  Must…try….clips…  gulp

Right - new stuff used today!  Still in a plop, so we’ll see how it goes throughout the day.  I do have mini-product reviews here, though (I’ll write proper ones once I’ve used the new stuff several times over).

weather: 68/47, dew: 55 (oooooh humid!)

cowash: VO5 Champagne Kiss

Here’s where it gets weird.  I decided to use the Darcy’s stuff today, and I realised I hadn’t a clue when to use the detangling cream I got.  So - I used that just after co-washing.  Don’t ask me why - it just seemed the right thing to do.  And it does live up to its name - it detangles really well.  My only gripe is that it sort of soaked in rather quickly and left my hair feeling a bit coated.  I suspect this means it’s probably meant to be used AFTER a rinse-out - and a quick read of the ingredients showed me some light sealing oils, which means that’s probably right.  The reaction on my hair reminded me of the first time I used AOWC, which is too oily to leave in more than about 3 minutes.  I suspect that’s just due to using it too soon in the conditioning process.  I used my new Tangle Teezer to detangle, which might take some getting used to - it’s brilliant idea and it works, but it’s hardly soft on my scalp!

Then I used the Pumpkin Seed conditioner as a rinse-out.  THIS SMELLS LIKE PUMPKIN PIE!!!!!!!  LOL  It’s really thick, so I added some to my length and then added some water to distribute.  It’s got a lovely creamy consistency and I suspect it would detangle really well.  Feels a bit like a thick, slightly more oil-based version of the CJ Smoothing conditioner when it’s on (sort of a halfway between that and AOWC - I’d say AOHR, but that’s more buttery than oily).  I left it on about 10 minutes while I did the rest of my shower, and it rinsed off nicely, despite the weirdness with the detangler.

I followed up with the Darcy’s leave in, which seriously reminds me of KCKT, only it smells like peaches rather than mangos.  Same consistency, same results, everything.

I styled the same way I normally do - I thought for a change I’d only change a few things at a time so I had a better chance of knowing what did what.  So that’s CJ CCCC, distributed with a Denman, then a modified super soaker and scrunched a teeny bit more CCCC in, followed by a nice puddle of CIAB.  I scrunched out the excess water, and am now plopped in a flour sack towel.

The question is - regardless of the results I get today - what do I use tomorrow?!

Been sitting in the sun doing thesis work since I de-plopped about an hour ago and I’m dry now.  I’ve SOTCd and the results today are more or less what I expected.  I was right about the Darcy’s leave-in - it’s done the same thing to my hair that KCKT does when used with the CJ products - caused loads and loads of frizz.  The curls themselves are pretty good (some nice shrinkage on my layered bits), but I appear to be over conditioned in some areas (lots of scraggly ends).  I get that way now and again anyway, but I might have finally found a conditioner that can OC me!  (This is a triumph, seriously).  I have a teensy bit of height on my crown for a change, but not sure what’s caused that. My roots feel slightly oily - I think because of the detangler.  This isn’t a problem now, but I’m fairly certain my hair will get more gunky feeling throughout the day - I get the same sort of post SOTC result when I’ve overdone the GPB (very oily) or put waaaay too much leave-in in.

But I’m still perfectly presentable, and will probably clip back the front bits to help blend in the scraggly bits.

Oh - and my head smells like pumpkin. grin  This is probably the best bit.  (I was doing some work and realised someone was standing behind me - turned out it was my SO, who told me in no uncertain terms ‘please make some pumpkin custard… or I may have to eat your hair…’)

Pumpkin custard Mmmmm ... OK - How do you make it and what do you serve it with?  grin

http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/specialty/libbys-detail-fpp.aspx - this is the recipe I follow.

For custard, just bake in a normal dish instead of a pie crust.  It comes out a bit like… mousse?  Hard to explain.  I know there are very few places that sell pumpkin-inna-can - my mom sends me cans in the autumn (still have a bunch!), but Partridges in London often has it in stock.

You can serve it with cream, ice cream, whatever you want.  Tradtionally in the US it’s served at Thanksgiving and Christmas with whipped cream on top.

Also, you can pretend it’s healthy if you use Splenda (or a similar sweetener) instead of sugar.  Pumpkin’s a squash, after all, and the sugar in this is the only thing making it ‘bad’ for you.  I’ve done it like that for my diabetic friend and it tastes identical.

Ah - so it’s the same filling as pumpkin pie! I thought it might be ‘pouring’ consistency.  wink

I’m fairly certain you can do that too - you’d probably have to leave out the eggs, or only partially cook it or something.  My grandmother used to make drinkable custard that was basically eggs, milk, and sugar like that (not the yellow stuff you get in the cans or packets here).

More new product fun!

Today’s weather: 69/47; dewpoint: mid 50s.

My hair really retained its moisture well yesterday and I was loath to rinse out and start afresh today.  I mean, by bedtime it was still touchably soft and absolutely wonderful.  But begin again I did. The DB Pumpkin Seed conditioner is definitely going into rotation, though.

cowash: VO5 Champagne Kiss
rinse-out: CJ Curl Theory
leave-in: CJ Curl Assurance Smoothing Conditioner (last dregs of the bottle watered down)
styling: CJ CCCC, as per usual.  Instead of the CIAB, though, I used the new CJ Curl Gellie.  This stuff looks and feels a bit more like a sticky leave in conditioner than a gel to me.  However, it does what it says on the bottle - it really does smooth things down.  I could tell I had more definition to my curls after applying it, and I suspect the definition will stick around.  I scrunched out the excess water and am now plopped - should be about half an hour, then an hour or so to try.  I predict defined curls with less frizz - but absolutely no volume.  We’ll see if I’m right!
