who else suffers from really bad pink cheeks?....how are you controlling it this summer?

I have always had this blushing and as its summer now it is even worse because my whole face can go pink/red,actually I hate it and its embarrassing.

I used to wear a powder by benefit which is supose to neutralise the skin tone but wasn’t actually good enough and normal foundations don’t seem to be that great either, unless its just the ones I try and in summer they just melt of the skin.

I have also used a boots green corrective cream which is ok but not great

I have the same problem but am not using anything to specifically control it as I found that most products, like the Boots green cream, just clog up my pores. I just try and use mild products. At the moment I’m using a treatment from Bobbi Brown which my skin seems to like and also their buffing grains which are super gentle. I don’t wear much makeup generally and always endeavour to remove any if I am wearing mascara, or anything else.

Clinique do a ‘no more red’ range that may be worth checking out, if you haven’t already. I generally find their products too harsh for me so haven’t tried it myself.

Hey Clgkb - I have this problem (I don’t think mine is Rosacea as I’ve been to the docs about it!) I just have super sensitive skin that reacts to practically everything!

The best thing I’ve found, which I’ve been using for a few years now is the Bare Escentuals (Bare Minerals) foundation - with is a mineral powder and does seem to do the job without clogging up my skin like the regular cream foundations.  Also, as there are no chemical additives in the powder, is supposed to be good enough to sleep in - which I am guilty of!

There are cheaper mineral make-ups on the market to test out, but the Bare Escentuals is 100% pure.

I have really red cheeks, but they are much worse in winter that summer so I’m pretty happy with my skin at the moment. The worst patch I’ve got is just above my jaw, and its quite bit and really red. That is always there, no matter whether its winter or summer. Mine covers pretty well with foundation (I mix various ones to get a decent shade) and if I need anymore coverege I sometimes add a bit of concealor, or light-reflecting moisuriser before my foundation.

Thanks for the replies, has definitely given me some other ideas.

have never tried a mineral foundation and never really thought about how the skincare products I use may effect it either, although I don’t think I actually have the condition Rosacea either.

The problem I had with the benefit face powder was it just seemed to sit on top of my skin and I have dry skin to so I can see how mineral ones might be better also.

Have had ‘rosy cheeks’ all my life and when I was young I found it bothered me hugely. However, if it’s any consolation it is less bothersome the older you get! I’ve never found a green corrector to be any good and Benefit HUGELY drying for me.

Some tips: My skin is also dry so product can ‘sit’ on top - I find it is better to use a medium weight/coverage foundation that has high pigment and is moisturising - rather than a heavier weight one. The heavier foundations will look like a ‘mask’ and your natural skin tone won’t come through. Find a foundation that will even out your skin tone rather than try and cover up the red bits - this will look more natural. Chanel have some lovely foundations that are not drying.

I can’t use mineral make-up - I find it too drying but Laura Mercier have a good range. Mac have a huge range of foundations.

All the products I have mentioned are expensive but IMHO there is a noticeable difference in quality between cheap foundations and pricier ones and this is the one item of make-up that is worth spending money on.

Before I buy a new foundation, I always get them to apply it to my face (I get them to cleanse and moisturise first too) and I ‘wear’ it for a few hours to see how it feels on my skin - so many make my skin feel dry and tight which is a no-no for me. It also gives me a chance to see what it looks like in natural light as store lighting is so different.

Hope some of this helps, clgkb!  grin

I am also a sufferer. I blush for no reason even when someone looks at me. I just embarass myself so easily. I found makeup helps. Bobbi brown creamy concealer is fantastic. I have also learned to live with redness as long as it is toned down.

Thanks both of you is well,I agree you need to spend abit more on foundations…..I found the Benefit yellow powder (can’t remember the name) drying and sat on top of my skin and I know what you mean about heavy foundations,I don’t like them.

Have had alot of ideas for brand products to possibly try.

You’re welcome!  grin

Most of the good brands should be happy to give you a sample to take home ((department stores are best for this).
