Hi all,

So glad I found this site as I’m returning to the curls after a 10 year break.

I’ve left it natural for a couple of weeks, including air drying, but I can’t make any difference to some ‘straight bits’. To explain, my hair is very fine and when left to dry on it’s own has loose ‘s’ shaped curls. The frustrating thing is that on the top layer of my hair it refuses to curl and there are strands that look more fuzzy and straight than anything else which makes me think that these bits are dry??

I hope this is making sense, it’s quite hard to describe!! If there is anyone out there with any advice I’d be really greatful.

Thanks

Hi Helen4373 and welcome grin What products are you using and how are you applying them?  The canopy part of your hair could be drier as that is the bit that is most exposed to all the elements so may be worth trying a slightly heavier conditioner on this part - tho you will need to be careful with quantities because as you say you have fine hair it may weigh it down too much

Fine to med hair, porous - most porous on canopy, low/med density

Co wash - Tresemme
Rinse out - Tresemme naturals/CJ Smoothing Lotion if needed
Styling -  Naked curl defining cream, Mop Top Gel
Still trying products but not as much as previously!

Thanks for the reply.

I’m currently using the Naked Shine Unveiled shampoo and conditioner and then spraying it with Andrew Collinge Perfect Endings as this seems to help create the curls. I use olive oil once a week as a treatment. With regards to product, I have had a go with gel but it really wasn’t a good look!! I also live in a really hard water area which doesn’t help.

All suggestions appreciated.

Hi Helen4373 - try scrunching your products in - the andrew Collinge stuff - once you have sprayed it put your head down and scrunch you hair - that might help with encouraging curl.  (Hard water can cause build up too, so maybe you could try a clarifying shampoo)

Thanks again for the further advice.

I’ve tried the Boots pink cream tonight and it seems to have helped keep the curl a bit better. Psyching up the courage for a colour and cut next week having been recommended a hairdresser. I might consider a few layers although I’m once bitten, twice shy!! I’d sooner go to the denitst.
