Hi, could I ask you about the Pretty Wrap please? Is it something you buy (if so where from) or can you do it with any scarf? I’m also trying to find ways of keeping my hair overnight. Thanks!

No probs smile

The Pretty Wrap is a combination sleep bonnet and scarf, to camouflage the bonnet, it’s made from silk, and it’s available from the USA website http://www.prettywrap.com/

With the exchange rate, and reasonable shipping costs, it’s not that expensive, in my view, for something that will last a good while. The product is very well made. It’s also easy for clumsy people like me to use smile I can bend over, pile my hair on top of my head with one hand and pull on the bonnet part of the wrap over my piled-up hair with the other, fix the bonnet and then tie the scarf. It stays on all night, keeps the hair tidier than pineappling (for me, at any rate), is breathable and comfy.

I just wish I looked as stylish when wearing mine as the model on the website lol

I like their product so much, I’ve sent off for some of their headbands too.

Hiya

I agree your hair looks great LOL

Particularly liked the great recommendations, very detailed.

Been feeling rather flat about my hair of late, you’ve rejuvinated me!

Ach, ta very much smile

I’m really happy to have had a good effect. Over the last few weeks, I was feeling very similar to you. I’d been on holiday in Spain for a week and, unexpectedly, had perfect hair for an entire week (which was a complete first for me!), however, when I got home to Ireland my hair became a frizzy, undefined mess and I was feeling really exasperated.

So I read three curly hair books (Lorraine Massey’s, Ouidad’s, and Tiffany Anderson’s) and I took my routine back to absolute basics: co-wash, gel, weekly DT with heat. I’m also experimenting with product application techniques and sometimes not plopping, I’ve also discovered that my waves don’t like scrunching very much. I’m in the process of creating a routine for myself based on elements from all three books that suited my hair/scalp best.

I’m by no means at the perfect hair stage but I’m feeling more in control and producing more consistent results than I was before.

Hi, could I ask you about the Pretty Wrap please? Is it something you buy (if so where from) or can you do it with any scarf? I’m also trying to find ways of keeping my hair overnight. Thanks!

As you’re interested in finding something to keep your hair overnight, I thought I’d let you see what the Pretty Wrap does for my hair. I’ve attached two photos, taken in the morning after wearing my wrap to sleep in.

In the first photo, I slept with my hair piled up on my head inside the wrap. in the morning I’ve sprayed my hair with warm water, let it dry and then smoothed some AVG into the ends and over the canopy. The hair isn’t as wavy as I can normally get it but I would wear it like this and not be too worried.

In the second photo, I washed my hair at night and let it air dry, I didn’t SOTC my hair at all, and at bedtime I piled it on my head, put on the wrap for sleeping. In the morning, I wet my hair with warm water spray, and then twirled the shortest canopy layers, let my hair dry, and smoothed AVG into the ends and over the canopy. In this photo, I think I could do with SOTC a bit more but the hair is much wavier than the first photo:)

I still prefer how my hair looks when it hasn’t been slept on, but I don’t always have the time or energy to wake up early to completely wet it, add products, and let it air dry - also, I know I’m not going to want to leave the house with wet hair in the winter, so I’m taking advantage of the warmer weather to practice techniques for getting 2nd day hair with minimal wetting/drying time.

I’m getting better results with 2nd day hair since I started wearing the wrap than I was with pineappling and, hopefully, by the time it’s winter, my shortest layers will have grown longer and will have reached the wavier pattern that my longer layers have, so that might also help in achieving tidier 2nd day hair. Fingers crossed!

If you don’t want to try the Pretty Wrap, another technique I use, that gives acceptable results, is to wear a 50cm square 100% silk scarf that I got on eBay (I call the way I wear it ‘housewife style’ cos it’s how I keep my hair back out of my way when I’m doing housework or cooking - here’s an example of how I tie it: http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumb_354/1232027813MVuFQV.jpg) and then I loosely plait the hair that falls out of the back of the scarf. If I use a few kirby grips or bendies to anchor the scarf to my hairline, it usually stays on all night.

I’m liking the look of that Pretty Wrap, Mich - ingenious design!

Edit: It doesn’t look like they ship to UK tho? Did you get it shipped here?

It is a very clever idea, isn’t it - I’m always impressed by people who can come up with clever solutions to niggly, little everyday problems smile I’ve ordered from the PrettyWrap website twice and they’ve only charged me between $4-$7 dollars for international shipping, also the parcels usually arrive within a fortnight. It might not say they deliver to the UK but they definitely do smile

I think it would be a great product for the BritishCurlies Emporium to stock.

ETA: the wrap might have an even better effect for women with a tighter curl or wave pattern than mine. My canopy is the hair on my head with the weakest ability to hold wave (my fault for torturing it with straighteners for years smile ) so sleeping on it can straighten it out a bit, no matter what measures I take. The wrap might also work well for women who can mist their hair and plop it the next morning, without disturbing curl pattern (for some reason plopping really doesn’t work well for me and it disrupts my waves more than if I just let them dry without scrunching).

i was thinking of trying the curls cleanser and conditioner as i love the fact it comes with a pump but i was put off as i thought it was more for very curly/kinky hair ui have just seen another wavy with fine hair like mine found it worked for her so i will give it a go.

On the style tips i have found from the long hair community forum that if i put product in my freshly washed hair and then put it up in a very lose bun the most gorgeous frizz free waves emerge grin
