I have been getting consistently good hair with this gel so thought it was about time I did a little review.

Smell - I really like the smell of this.  It is my favourite of all the CJ scents.  I find it hard to describe what its like but its light, not fruity or heavy.

Consistency is a thickish clear gel.  I’m using around 1p sized blobs - for each side top and back so maybe 4 of these.

I use it with no leave-in (this is just what my hair prefers).  It dries with some crunch but is easily scrunched out and then I find as the day goes on my hair plumps up more and this gel lets me have multiple days from it.

Price wise it is one of the lesser costing CJ products and that is a bonus though I would still buy it if it was more expensive.

All in all I really like this product and can depend on it for a good hair day.  smile

i love this product! it’s now a staple of mine! it defines my curls so so well and keeps them moisturised. I use the CJ Smoothing Lotion underneath and i actually don’t get any crunch with it.

Do you think it would work in cold, damp weather to prevent curls from frizzing? I’m having issues at the moment with KCCC in this kind of weather and figured it’s to do with dew points and humectants (which I still don’t understand!)

I was unimpressed with Curl Queen at first - my hair dried out horribly when I used it a few days running.  This was around the time I realised I was somewhat aloe sensitive in low dews but could combat it by making sure my hair was soaking when I applied the product and dry before I went outside - and now it’s actually booted out CIAB as my gel of choice.  It reminds me a little bit of Spiral Solutions’ gel - sort of like KCCC but with protein and about half the drying time.  CQ’s got better long-term adherence once you SOTC, though (with SS, I could run my fingers through my hair by the end of the day and get just sort of a curly fuzz.  It didn’t seem to ‘stick’, if that makes sense.  With CQ the curls stay providing I don’t break up my clumps too much).

I would give it a go essexcurl as it is working good for my hair in the cold damp weather we have up north.  If you don’t like it you would have no probs swapping it (to me for example!)  LOL

I’m really tempted to give this a try now, especially as you mention the faster drying time. Do you use a leave-in underneath oddityofwings?

I do, yeah, and a curl creme as well.  Usually CJ Beauticurls leave-in and CJCCCC.

Hi Jacky,

Since we have similiar(ish) hair types i wanted to ask if the CJ Smoothing Lotion is essential underneath the CJ Curl Queen? Have you tried it with other leave in’s underneath? and have you tried it without any leave in underneath?

Just preparing myself for when my sample from a lovely lady comes grin

Also I’m having trouble working out the main difference between the CJ Curl Queen and CJ Curls in a Bottle, I’m thinking that it’s the consistency of the liquid? Any thoughts?

Adjoe aside from the consistency (curls in a bottle is runnier) I have found that i get more hold with the gel. Also the curls in a bottle is more of a serum type product - I really couldn’t just use it and nothing else.  Our of the 2 I would but the gel again but not the CIAB.  (only my opinion tho!) HTH (Also I use the gel with no leave in - but that is my hair - hopefully Jackylou can reply to you on this if she has similar hair to you.)
