Hi,

I’ve decided to go back to CG after a few years away. I’m new to this forum *wave* but I have been posting on the naturally curly website for years smile Another member there let me know about this site which is great!

I have ordered some Curl Junkie Daily Fix because I’ve moved back home to a hard water area and am having build up problems - several people recommended CJDF to me which I’m excited to try.

Do I need a conditioner to co-wash with this as well? Either afterwards or for the days in between if I don’t need to use it daily?

Can anyone recommend some good ones? I know 4 years ago I had a lot of trouble finding cg friendly products on the high street, but thanks to this site, it looks like its going to be a lot easier this time round!

Hi!

I meant to reply over at NC.com, but this’ll do since I’ve seen this first.

Daily Fix can take the place of co-washing.  If my hair’s super dry sometimes I’ll also cowash, but generally I think most of us use it in place of a co-wash.  Some people don’t need a rinse-out with it either - depends on how dry your hair is!

As far as co-washes go, there is a partial list over here: http://www.britishcurlies.co.uk/curl_forum/viewthread/215/  The usual caveats apply - I don’t know if any of the products listed there have been reformulated recently.

I have issues finding a good co-wash over here.  I know a lot of people like the Original Source conditioners, but I find they get pricey after a while (soooo tiny!) and that they build up, at least on me (polyquats).  Garnier Fructis Repair and Shine is cone-free and works fairly well, but I find it has a lot of oils which do tend to cause me problems.  Faith In Nature makes some good conditioners, and is available at many health food stores.  The only downside, to me, is that they all smell like lemon floor cleaner.  The new Tresemme Naturals are fairly universally liked for co-washing.  I don’t much like them because the alcohols dry out my hair and the amino acids in them seem to build up, but most people love them.  There is also Inecto Pure Coconut Oil conditioner (only the conditioner - everything else has cones), which is the one I like the most.
It has fairly good slip and a very simple formula, and smells like toasted marshmallows. grin

I’m also sort of toying with using Waitrose Essentials conditioner for normal hair - it has a peg cone and a poly-quat, but doesn’t seem to be building up…... yet.  It’s only about 99p for a bottle, so it’s a cheapish choice.

Hope that gives you some ideas to start with. grin

So I’ve picked up some Inecto pure coconut conditioner to try co-washing with (it didn’t say oil but the ingredient list looks short and I don’t see any cones I don’t think!).

I haven’t used the Tresemme’s enough yet to say whether it is a good option for my hair or not. It worked lovely after using Daily Fix.

How often does everyone co-wash?

Do I want to co-wash as well, after I use daily fix once a week?

Hey there

This is my first post woo hoo!

Daily fix is a truly amazing product! I have been using for just over 2 weeks and I have never used anything like it. It total cleanses hair and scalp, leaves my hair moisturised and feeling fab! Totally recomend this!

I did try knot today but as with other co-washes this left my hair greasy, dry and lacking in curl.

Hope you get the same benefits as I have :o)

In winter, I cowash when I’m not shampooing - Because I exercise quite a bit, I’ve upped my shampoo usage to twice a month, and I cowash on the weeks I’m not shampooing, so twice a month.

In summer, when it gets hotter, I might increase it a little bit, to cowashing once a week, but my hair isn’t overly fond of too much moisture, so I try not to use moisturising conditioners too much.

Well strike Tresemme of the co-washing list. I can’t stand the stench - does anyone else think it smells like burnt hair?

Now experimenting with Inecto as my main co-wash (not that I co-wash often - I usually just reach for Daily Fix because I love it do much lol).

If I do get some build up from this one I’ll give Faith in Nature another go. I used to use their conditioners before - they are quite nice.

Anyone suggest a nice one for co-washing out of their large range?

I use Morrisons Fruits conditioners for co-wash, it’s well cheap and they smell good, don’t build up and do the job pretty well! I like the big and bouncy one, but ther are loads, cone free and 99p for a mahoosive bottle!

Hi

I am only 3 weeks into the CG routine and had bought Naked Bounce no sulphate shampoo and conditioner only to now discover the conditioner has silicone in it - oh bum!  The shampoo however has cocamidopropyl Betaine in it so can I just shampoo the cone out and continue with a healthier conditioner if I can find one in the shops?  So many brands I dont recognise and I have a head full of big long names to avoid and getting confused lol tongue rolleye

I’ve just tried Urtekram conditioner rose (they do Aloe Vera too), it isn’t the cheapest for co wash (about £4.60) but I wouldn’t use it for every co wash, just when you need some extra cleansing as it has coco betaine in.  It is quite good diluted too.  It doesn’t give as much slip as some, but I like that it has a more cleansing effect sometimes.  You can get it in some independent chemists and a few places online - the link below has free postage in May if anyone wants to try some, and they have a few other CG brands too.

Fine, very porous, quite high density, elasticity - nope
Bleach damage downer

Co - Tigi Bedhead Moisture Maniac, Desert Essence Coconut
DT - Botanics 3 min mask, Jessicurl WDT, CJ Repair Me
Leave in -  Keracare Natural Textures,  Argan Oil as sealant/finisher

Looks good LucyP. Thank you.

Curly end of wavy. I get chunky ringlets and some elongated S shapes.  Fairly dense, medium texture, medium porosity.

Rotation is key for me.  Get on well with most Curl Junkie products especially CQ, CIAB, PP for stylers, Hard hold gel on top; usually BRHG.  Also CJ protein treatments.
Other stuff B&A Gel, EO conditioners, GFRS, Hairveda Sitrinnillah, Joico K-Pak reconstruct, Afroveda TT and CL butters.

You have to be a tiny bit more careful to avoid tangling than with slippery co washes, I think because of the coco betaine, but not like a low poo or anything.  It just isn’t ultra slip like I find the Inecto or the Naked Sensitive are for co washing.

I haven’t used this but I just noticed it has some surfactants in -

http://www.aromantic.co.uk/buy-base-conditioner-all-hair-types-organic-uk.htm

It also has phenoxyethanol which I’ve read in places can have health risks,  it has been used quite a bit recently I think because of the pressure to avoid parabens, but might have its own problems.  But thought I might put it up as it is in so many products including from ‘natural’ type brands that whether to research/avoid it is a separate issue really.
