I’m going on a biking holiday in a couple of weeks around the UK, and I’m worried about my curls.

I’m not so worried about humidity, styling, and all that as most of the time my hair will be well and truly squished under a helmet with just the ends sticking out the back in a pony tail.  The actual effect of this is quite good - soft gentle waves and no frizz so that side of it is fine.

What I am worried about is the long term effect all this squishing and tying back will have on my curls?  I won’t even be able to fully wet my hair everyday.  Is there anything I can do to make sure that when I get home they will be as bouncy and curly as when I left?

I have much the same prob as I cycle to work and have to squash mine in a cycle helmet.  The only thing I find is it flattens the top.  No ill affects to the curls.  I cycle every day - I don’t think you should worry about it.  Plus safety comes first (I remember at the bike shop when I was trying on the helmet I said it was going to flatten my hair - and the salesman said ‘what good is nice hair when you’re head’s cracked open cause you don’t wear a helmet! - suppose that’s true!) You could take a spray bottle & give your hair a spritz when you take your helmet off for the last time at nights (even add a little co to it). HTH

Thanks curlyhairmich, I will do that.

Maybe I’m panicking a bit much, my curls came back after years of abuse so I guess they should be fine.  I just don’t want to loose them!
