So I don’t know if I am being stupid, or what I am missing but I am sure people said that ‘cones had been put in all nakeds conditioners… these are the ingredients for the gentle conditioner but I just can’t see them. I am sure someone will point them out to me.

TIA

Hi everyone, this is my first post so should probably be on the newbies thread but will do that soon!  Just absorbing all the info here,  thank you for sharing all your knowledge.  I am about to start CG.  I think that the Liz Earle shampoo (one for all types) is a good low poo, it has an ‘alternative’ cleansing/lathering ingredient apparently, and also all their conditioners are silicone free they told me.  Not the cheapest, but for occasional use the shampoo lasts for quite a while.  Hope I’m right about them being CG but am clueless still so, let me know if not!  I noticed that the conditioner has Sodium Hydroxide (low down on list), that rings a bell from something I saw as maybe not good.

I’m probably late to the party for this one - but we finally got a Wilko’s here in my town (yay!!!) and of course I had to check their own brand conditioners to see if they’re CG.  The tropical fruit ones look fine, as do their low end conditioners (unless my cone and mineral oil spotting has gotten really bad).  Should be great for co-washing!

I went into my local Holland and Barretts today for the first time in - oh, I don’t know - a year? - and WOW their haircare ranges have expanded!  And it all looks CG!

New brands:

A’Kin - very pricey (£10.50/ 255 ml), but organic and paraben/silicone/sulfate free and all that jazz.  Was very tempted to try this!
Burt’s Bees - I know we know about them, but H&B carries them now!
Lavera - also looks pretty good

I was seriously bowled over! Also, when did Dr. Organics get so extensive??

Hi!

The thing with silicones is, some people find them heavy on their curls, some people don’t. The important thing to remember is that silicones can be removed with a clarifying shampoo (with sulphates). I’d say go for it, use the conditioner and see if you like it. If you do, if you ever start seeing buildup (which you might not), you’ll have to clarify. HTH!

Yep, one of the main reasons the Curly Girl book suggests silicone free is because if you’re co-washing, there’s nothing to strip off the silicones, leading to buildup. I know lots of curlies who love ‘cones though. It just depends on what your hair needs! Have fun experimenting!

Thanks! Yes, I usually use the purple gel because it’s soooo cheap and unsticky. I need to use lots of it, then don’t touch my hair at all while it’s airdrying, or pixie-curl method it with a diffuser. My tips would be to apply it to soaking wet hair. The best ever results I got with it was applying it over FSG (flax seed gel).

Newbie here, very excited about her CG journey!

Just to add Superdrug have another conditioner in their Naturals range, Raspberry and Macadamia Nut for ‘smooth and intense shine’ apparently. I believe it is CG but here are the ingredients just in case:

Aqua, Cocamide MEA, Cetryl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Rubus Ideaus (Raspberry) Extract, PEG-16, Macadamia Glycerides (Macadamia Nut), Benzophenone-3, Cetrimonium Chloride, Benzophenone-4, Ceteareth-20, Parfum, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Lactic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, CI 16255, CI 17200, CI 42051.

I mention this because it is only £0.79 currently! Maybe one worth adding to the list?
