Hi Vee!
My routine changes depending on how i am feeling about my hair.
My usual routine is:
- prepoo with coconut oil/hairveda vatika frosting —night before shampoo
- shampoo every 4 days (otherwise scalp starts screaming)
- usually do a wash and go then twist that with same products that night or the following day, wear twists for 1 day and twistout for another day, then wash again.
- I use a variety of products as i am always trying new products
- IDC every time i shampoo, cos my hair likes it.

The past 2 weeks though i have been washing almost daily and wearing wash and go’s cos i am not so much into twisting my hair at the moment. So i prepoo quickly at night, shampoo the next day (or use a cleansing condish), then style (always put a leave-in conditioner on first, then layer on whatever else). My hair also loves this routine, when i get tired of doing this, i will do twists again or cornrows!

washing my hair is fairly quick, and i style it in the shower now when i wear wash and go’s. It takes me about 20 minutes altogether if i am not deep conditioning, if i am DC’ing, then add 30 minutes to that.
I often let it air dry, then it depends on the products used on how long it will take to dry. Sometimes though i blow dry it on cool/medium setting for 10 minutes and i am all done.
When i twist my hair, i do it at night, takes about 40 minutes if i do 15 to 20 twists, if i do smaller ones, can take me an hour.
i don’t have a set wash day, i just wash my hair whenever i feel like it really, if i am busy during the day, then i wash it at night once baby is in bed and dinner is out of the way! smile

1. What are your wash day routines?
Pre- poo with castor oil, and section my hair into four parts.
Then finger detangle the sections
Wash, condition and moisturise in the four sections.

2. How frequently do you wash (or co-wash for you curly girls). Wash with shampoo when I notice buildup (scalp gets itchy and I notice a film between my nails.) Co wash at least every other day.

3. How do you style it after you’ve washed/conditioned? Wear as a shunken fro, or keep in two ponytails, if I wish to have a less shrunken fro, or more stretched out style.

4. How long does your wash day take in total? (including drying time)
Pre-poo, finger detangle, wash,deep condition = 1.30hrs.
I air dry, so my hair usually doesn’t dry completely till the next day usually, If I was to include drying time we would talking 8+ hrs!!

5. What day(s) do you do this routine and why? Saturday or Sunday..Usually over the weekends - usually have more time.

My wash day routines usually take place on sunday (day of chilling and taking my time).

I couldnt really give you a decent time scale as im usually not in a rush to do other things when I do my hair, I try to get everything done before hand.  Time depend on how much I am taking my time and if I am finger detangling or using a comb.

Before getting my hair wet I pre poo. Then make and use a brown sugar scrub on my scalp. Give that a good message. Then section my hair into four and do the whole washy detangling stuff.

When thats all done I redo my twists - usually on wet hair, but I am going to try doing it on dry hair soon and see how that works out.

1. If I’m taking down a style (which I usuually am) I’ll de-tangle first. I used to use conditioner and de-tangle damp with a comb, but I lose much less hair when I finger de-tangle on dry hair, with a little bit of coconut/Vatika Oil to keep my strands separate and my fingers from hurting.
Then I’ll do my deep condition (protein or moisture, depends on my hair) on dry hair, sectioned into 6 or 8 twists. Do my business for an hour or so and I’ll wash with gentle cleansing cream (at the moment, it’s Curls Cleansing Cream, but after this, I’ll have to switch back to my Ayurvedic mixes :/). Then I’ll condition (unless I did a moisturising DC), (malt vinegar) rinse (because the water here is incredibly hard), clench most of the water out of my hair with a microfibre towel and then use my sealant of choice.

2. I usually do this every two weeks - My hair is usually in a protective style and I don’t like touching my hair too often because it’s so fine, it’ll break.

3. Usually in some form of twists - single strands, or flat twists. It means my hair is stretched if I want to do something else with it in a couple of days. I’ve done the puff after washing thing and it’s incredibly hard to tame it back down into something else afterwards without re-dampening, so I avoid this.

4. Eh. About 3 - 5 hours, not including de-tangling. But usually, de-tangling happens on another day, since I’m so careful, or I’d be there FOREVER D: Drying time I’ve never really measured, since I don’t like wet styling, I mop up water immediately with my towel.

5. Usually starts (de-tangling) on a Friday and I finish it over the weekend, or whatever morning I have time.

Depending on whether my hair is loose or in a protective style (usually the latter) I shampoo my hair about every 7-10 days. If I’m in minibraids I co-wash at will, maybe every 3-4 days if exercising regularly because I sweat alot in my scalp.  I set my washed minibraids in chinee bumps (bantu knots)/twists/braids, sometimes on rollers, just depends on what look I’m going for.

OK so the process for my loose hair is:

1. Takedown my long term protective styles with with extra virgin coconut oil and QB CTDG (detangle in small sections with my fingers/Denman and now Tangle Teezer!)
2. Shampoo in sections.
3.  Apply deep conditioner and sit under heat cap for 20-30 mins.
4. Twist my damp hair and allow it to airdry overnight, so including drying time, my wash process takes a whole 24 hours, lol.

I tend to do my wash routine on a Sunday because that’s when I have most time on my hands.

I have a video on my YT channel that talks about my wash day routine (naturallovesong #5 - Wash Day)

Hi. smile

-Once at month i use cassia treatment mixed with oil and conditioners before washing and dc.
On my washing days once at week i use a pre condtioning treatment sometimes amla powder, coconut milk or other natural ingredients. Then i wash with conditioner sometimes one from Garnier or Aubrey Organics. After that i deep conditioning i sometimes tend to make my own because of lack of money, but i really like MyHoneyChild Olive You Deep i gotta buy some more soon! But i found Vatika Hot Oil Deep Conditioner working very well for my hair, i love it. While the deep conditioner is in i comb it and make big twists after combing. After a while i wash it out and takes the twists out. But sometimes also i wetten my hair, comb it and makes twist before the pre treatment.

-I co-wash once at my washing day and sometimes depending on hair style once-twice through the week.

-I like braid outs and makeing buns with a “old” braid out. Also buns and up dos.

-It’s crazy how slow i can be lol, sometimes when i also do henna and etc. it can take 5 hours! But sometimes less if i’m in a hurry, so it’s not always once at week i do it if i doesn’t have time, so sometimes there might go 7-10 days in between.

-Oftens in the weekends were i have times, mostly on sundays. But if i have plans in the weekend i like to do it on fridays.
