Dear all

I am new to Curlies and need some advice!

I have just transitioned from permed hair to natural and I want to have very defined curls that will be afro like. What is the process to do this? Do I have to go to a salon or are there products that I can use.

Thanks for all the anticipated response.

What do you mean by “very defined curls that will be afro like”?

*ignores issue with term ‘African hair’*
If your hair has no visible curl, there’s a probabilty you don’t have any. You can’t really ‘define’ what you don’t have. However, you can use twist-outs and braid outs to mimic the appearance of curls.

Here’s a link to a braid out tutorial.

If your hair is naturally pretty straight with no products/treatments then you won’t be able to just naturally get curls. You can try what has been suggested to give the appearance of curls.

Some people’s hair regains more of a curl/tighter curl pattern once they start taking care of their hair, cutting out harsh chemicals/ingredients like sulphate. There’s loads of brands now that sell organic, natural hair products like Komaza, My Honey Child, Curl Harmony, Kinky Curly to name a few. Perhaps focusing on getting healthy, natural hair would be better for you, and then see what kind of curl pattern you end up with.

You may have to give your hair time to adapt to see a curl pattern,  hair is different.  Congratulations on your transitioning, you can rock your hair with the different styles as advised.
