Lately, I’ve been struggling with my hair routine, i.e. co-washing, detangling, styling etc.
At first, I attributed it to a protein-moisture imbalance, but nothing seemed to be working so I did a little research into hair porosity as this determines which products work best for your hair. When I was transitioning, I believe my hair was more porous as I had no problem maintaining moisture/protein levels in my hair but after I BC’d, the products I used whilst transitioning were not working for my hair anymore.
I started doing lots of conditioning DTs and this seemed to help, bringing my curls back to life.
Now, my hair is a bit longer (bob-length), frizz is now a major problem of mine. All my products are CG and I rarely ever use shampoos as they seem to make my scalp dry and itchy.
Anyway, after a lot of research I think I’ve found my problem was figuring out the porosity. It makes a lot of sense now as in the past, my hair was always quite resistant to chemical straightening, my hair doesn’t absorb water readily - I’ve noticed this more now and what’s most annoying is the products I apply to my hair just sit in my hair rather than be absorbed. I’d say these are characteristics of Low porosity hair.
My hair is also fine textured so thick/heavy products easily weigh down my hair and make it look limp and lifeless.
I’d be so happy if someone could recommend products for fine textured, low porosity hair. And even ways to help my hair absorb products better
