Sorry-silly question as this is for type 4’s!! i use always natural’s castor oil as a “base” and boots’ cream and eco-styler as a “topping”.  They smell really nice and don’t sit on your hair.  If you were to use always natural’s castor oil then I would suggest to use a pea-sized amount and heat it up by rubbing it in the palm of your hands to thin it’s consistency, it adds shine and moisturises very well.  I get through a lot of boots’ cream and eco-styler, If you were to use it then i would suggest (as with always natural’s castor oil) use a small amount to start off with because when you rub it in the palm of your hands it thickens…Hope it helped! smile

..The boots’ curl cream and eco-styler does what it says on the tin and just softens and moisturises your natural hair.  It is cheap at £1.32 and you can see a bit more on it and some reviews at http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-Curl-Creme-250ml_927582/, I bought the always natural castor oil from my hairdresser’s, you can also see more at http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Castor-Conditioning-Formula-Maximum/dp/B000ZO09UW

I am also looking for a new leave-in conditioner….I’m down to my last 2 bottles of Original Source Almond & Coconut (they no longer manufacture it) so I urgently need a reasonably priced (£5 max) alternative because my hair is thick I easily get through a 250ml bottle in 2 wks.

Like Curlcatastophe, I use the Castor Oil, boots Pink & Eco styler combo… its Afrotic West Indian Castor Oil, its very heavy and defines my hair fantastically, but doesnt really give my hair a shine/sheen - so I’ve been looking for an replacement to use with my Boots Pink & Oo Eco gel.

Wanted to try the Always but just checked the ingredients and no.1 on the list is Petrolatum, no. 3 Lanolin shut eye  long face
I’m trying to stay away from both these ingredients so, the search continues….....

My fave leave ins shea/castor/glycerin mix

smile I’m just over a month into CG and I’m really enjoying Garnier Fructis Repair and Shine Conditioner at the moment. As I posted in another thread, for me it’s a good all round co-wash, rinse out and leave in product which doesn’t build up on my hair or weigh it down (touch wood!)
P.S.  Sorry, I know I’m not a type 4 curly, more like a 3a, but wanted to share with fellow curlies what works for me.

I love GFRS for co-wash and mixed with some glycerine as a leave in!
So yes you are right. We don’t have to have identical hair types to enjoy the same products.

@ Ketchup -been there done that, I brought every bottle I came across in all the £land shops I could find in SW & SE London during the summer last year….they haven’t stocked it for quite a while now.

The shea/castor/glycerin mix sounds good, I’ll give that a go!

thanks for the replies guys,

ok i’ll defo try the castor oil mix as i have some at home, i’m in the same boat as La Rizada with regards to the Always product, trying not to use petroleum or mineral oil etc.. but will have a look in boots for the curl cream, also love the price..

What makes me laugh is i used to stay away from store branded products or things that were too cheap when i was relaxed as i assumed thery werent good for my hair lol how ironic now that they are natural i’m realising that some of them are actually safer and better than the products i paid silly money for. well i guess you live and you learn ay lol

The almond and coconut is selling out fast but there is still loads of mint and tea tree

Komaza Cali Leave in! I love this stuff it is quite heavy but you can use just a little, so i know my 80z bottle is going to last a while! It leaves curls really defined and soft and bouncy, as I have been on a search for AGES I am very content with this product!!

Yes I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about Komaza, but I’m too tight fisted to pay those prices, especially when natural ingredients or cheaper alternatives can be found.

(ok truth is I have a BIG shoe addiction and thats where my money goes! and as I cant make shoes, but I can whip up decent hair products from natural ingredients when i have the time…the shoes win! LOL)  grin
