for some reason my scalp has become really sensitive and hurts a lot more than it did when I was relaxed and they used to rip the comb through my undergrowth. I was not tender headed then why now?
:’( has anyone else experienced this????

mostly in the crown area, like right smack in the centre of my head. But I do get some pains all over when I twist my hair.

I guess I must be yanking on it more than other areas :( I’ll try to be more gentle next time. I really don’t want to loose my hair there as during my relaxed days I seemed to not have hair there but its nice and full now. I still get paranoid though as my hiar is less dense in the back than the front.

I have the same problem and I don’t know why either. I’m extra careful with my hair and try as hard as poss not to yank or anything but it still hurts in certain areas. Grrrr! I feel your pain Mims!

I was tender headed when I was younger. My mom used to oil my scalp then massage it for long time before and after detangling. Have you tried scalp massages?

Prob worth a shot. Was there a particular oil your Mom used? Some oils are supposed to be soothing, I understand.

Hmm, I find my scalp seems a bit more tender now that I don’t relax any more because I’m pulling on it a lot more. To measure how gentle I’m being with my hair, I make sure I can’t feel it at the roots. If I can, then I’m pulling too hard.

I have also been experiencing a sore crown (and neighbouring areas) lately. I find that it gets worse closer to wash day and at times when I wash my scalp it feels very raw. Re-twisting my hair at night into large twists hurts as well. It must be that my scalp isn’t used to this regular manipulation and even the light tugging during twisting is too much compared to when I have been wearing my hair out as a wash and go with less manipulation. It could be that the area is difficult to reach as it is at the top/back of the head and so is twisted at an angle, thus tugging at the crown. Will have to refrain from re-twisting at night it seems and maybe use pineapples instead.

Yesterday I massaged some coconut and olive oil on my scalp and left it in for a couple of hours. In the shower my scalp felt okay but still a little tender. Using the Original Source Mint and Tea Tree conditioner to wash my scalp was so relieving though!
@ abisco and mims; Hope things have improved!

@naturalmane yeah my scalp has improved. I think I was tugging on my hair way too much and I guess perhaps my scalp was also not used to such manipulation all the time. It’s good now though
