I ought to do this… my hair is quite fine, so it wouldn’t take a lot of work.  I know this sounds silly, but I hate the feel of hair caught up in my fingers, but will have to get used to it!

@ Ketchup,

I have been finger detangling for the past two months and think I will stick with it, especially because of the reduced hair fall. I still have to do regular trims to remove some left over dry ends though. This is as a result of experimental stress during the first few months of trying to figure out my hair (jumping on bandwagons, etc *sigh* trying to keep it simple now). In a couple of months I can look forward to my ends being in better shape though smile.

@ pelicano,

I’d definitely give it a go to see if speeds up detangling for you and/or reduces hair fall. I just divide my hair into four sections (already saturated in a deep conditioner with good slip) and I bet smaller sections would be less overwhelming for the hands of course! When my hair is sopping wet it has less volume so it’s much faster to detangle then than when it’s damp-wet and starting to puff up a bit hehe.

I tried this today, and it was really easy!  I don’t particularly have lots of hair anyway (all the more reason why I don’t want to lose more than I should be), and I think reaching for the comb has been just habit and laziness, when I can do it with my fingers.

That’s good to hear pelicano smile. I think that there’s nothing wrong with using combs of course; I just went a bit overboard I think. When I trim next, I may need to level the ends with a comb before I cut them though.

Hi ladies!

I tried finger combing when I was still using silicone and sulfate products but the tangling was too much for me to get through.  Since I have gone full CG and found conditioners with good slip it’s pretty much a breeze with my once a week wash/cowash.  I finger section my hair in 3 big sections and finger comb each in halves.  It’s helped a lot with my curl formation for wash and go’s and takes less than 10 minutes from conditioner application to finish.  No problems with matting either.  We’ll see if it makes a difference with length when I do my end of summer check in. smile
