I agree its strange that people seem to have such conflicting experiences of Unruly.  It was only because I’d read so many shining reviews I actually kept going back ...  As if somehow I must have got it wrong as these people were supposed to be ‘the business’ ...

The thing is we all know its the cut that truly matters.  Yes, of course its great to have someone who knows how to dry curly hair properly - a joy in fact - but the cut is the key.  All this really proves is that there is an enormous gap in the market and so the competition for the likes of Unruly is practically non-existent.  It amazes me that this remains such a difficulty for us curly girls.  Why should we be so elated because a hairdresser doesn’t towel dry our hair?  Or brush it?  Or cut too much off? etc etc.  Its crazily simple!  Anyway, thanks for the heads up on Kelly at the Shoreditch salon, I appreciate that, and I may well give them a ring as I’m due for a cut.  Seems some other curly girls rate them too.

I’m sorry I can’t offer any recommendations to anyone yet ... the search continues ... X

Hi all
just thought i’d add my review of unruly - i’m afraid i wasn’t v impressed. my stylist, anthony, was a bit rude when i explained i didn’t have any idea of what style i wanted (i wanted them to advise me on what might work, being the experts!). i felt uncomfortable and unhappy through rest of my appointment. the cut was cute but my hair was very crunchy when i left (curls rock was the product) - as most curlies know crunchy curls are the ultimate no-no!! so i too am still hunting for a salon that will give me nice glossy defined curls, not just the standard one layer cut and diffuse dry everyone seems to do. i’ve heard good things about myla and davis in herne hill….

Hi,

New on the site and desperate to find a good hairdresser.

I have been twice to Unruly and will not recommend Michael. I was not impressed by the cut - too short and he is so arrogant. Felt not at ease with him.

Got my hair coloured at Eleven Hair - found the address here - and I am very pleased with my colour. Jason is great and I recommend him.

But now I need to find someone who can cut my hair. I think I am type 3 a or b. My problem is that I am not sure what I need. Layers? Side Part? My hair is shoulder length.

Have you ever been to Identity in Shoreditch? Any good?

I have contacted Carlos for an appointment in June but he is already fully booked.

Thanks for all your comment

Hey Curlyfrog - I’ve been to Unruly, Identity and Carlos while on the hunt for a good hairdresser!

I’ve been to Identity about 4 times now, in fact I had a trim there last week and I feel comfortable with them doing it (I’ve also had high-lights done there). I did ask for a dry cut there, but that meant they were going to need to comb out the hair - so we both agreed that wasn’t the way to go!

But I see Kelly there - even though she tends to wear her hair straight, she actually a naturally curly herself and she doesn’t get scissor happy!

There is another guy at Eleven who is supposed to be good with cutting curly hair as well - Ben I think.

But go in for consultations first as you can get a feel of the stylists and to see if you like what they’re saying!

Hi Curlyfrog - so glad you had a great experience with Jason. I too think he’s great! grin

I was going to recommend Ben to you - also at Eleven - but I see you have an appointment now! Look forward to hearing how it goes.

Hi Girls,

Just come back from Identity and wanted to write my review ASAP. Well I like my new cut (long at the back with some shorter layers to get some volume), my stylist was Jenny, she asked me what I wanted - I had brought some pictures with me so I could tell her what I wanted and what I did not want.

Had a treatment there for about 20 minutes, then she cut my hair, styled it but did not use the hairdryer. Was a bit scared to leave the salon with my hair wet so I asked her to dry it a bit so I can see the “final result”.

She used a hairdryer with no diffuser but a kind of thick socket on the hairdryer. Have you ever seen it?

I will post pictures soon (one before/one after).

I will recommend this salon, they use L Oreal Products and Minazi ones. I paid £55.

Voila! Hope I could help some girls.

Hey everyone grin
I just want to say that i’ve been to a really good hairdresser called Spencers at Bethnal Green.
If anyone’s been to this hair dresser, let me know what you think about it.
I haven’t had a hair cut in a year so i thought it was time for a trim because i had quite alot of split and dead ends, so my friend (who has beautiful long curly hair) recommended me to this hair dresser.

They did a treatment, blow dry and trim for £27 (every Tuesday it’s 25% off so i would of had to pay £35 on any other day which is still decent concidering curlies pay £60-£70!!!  gulp ). I came out with soft, renewed hair which i was happy about cheese .
Just thought I’d help out a curly Londoner. If anyone is thinking of going there please let me know of your experience. xXx
