I just turned 37 on Monday - eeeek, where does the time go?! - and I’m at Uni for the second time round (decided to have a career change).

I have to admit that I feel like I’m still in my mid-Twenties: I really don’t feel my age at all smile I honestly believe that you’re as young as you feel; that’s how I live my life (and that’s my excuse for being a not-very-responsible 37 yr old LOL).

I’m so happy this site, and others like it, exists because I spent the first 30 years of my life fighting with my hair (my mother spent the first 6 years fighting with it lol) and now I can look forward to growing older with a properly cared-for and happier bonce smile

I am 40.

I couldn’t get my mother off my hair for 11 years…she straightened it after every wash, so I grew up thinking that I had naturally straight, but messy hair!  When I asked her why she never just told me that this was called “curly hair”, she said “Well I hate mine, so I thought you would too.”  Hence my name on here.

Snap! I grew up thinking I had straight but messy hair too - my Mother never let my hair air-dry, she always blow-dried it or used tongs, or some sort of heat tools, on it when I was at Primary School. When I went to Secondary School and had long hair that I sort of looked after myself (very ineptly cause my Mother didn’t have any haircare info to pass on), I spent all my time with it in plaits or ponytails because it was so bushy. I literally didn’t know I had any proper wave or curl in my hair until March of this year - I just thought I had extremely bushy, frizzy hair. When I was a child I never knew why my Mother used big hot-rollers in her hair when it was short, or just grew her hair long and put it in a ponytail, I didn’t realise she was trying to control her own natural texture, I just thought she was weird - as kids do LOL.

After I went CG, my Mother was amazed that I had wavy/curly hair - when I tried discussing my childhood hair with her she said she just thought I had bad hair that needed taming. Now I know why I grew up hating my hair and thinking I had bad hair that seriously needed taming, which is what I did to it for 20-odd years confused

Funnily enough, my little sister has much curlier hair than I do and my Mother loved my sis’s hair and always made her wear it curly. However, that backfired because my Mother didn’t have a clue how to look after it and so my wee sis has hated her curly hair all her life; when she was 6 she took a pair of scissors to her hair and tried to cut off all her curls gulp  and even now, in her late 20s she refuses to wear it curly, the very suggestion makes her very grumpy downer

Yes, I knew what “blow-dry” meant at Primary School!

I used to think the rain warped it…because of people on television talking about “acid rain”!

Hey, do you think we could get a quiz into some comic that the children are reading, and put a quiz in it…so that the oblivious 8 year olds can all find out that they are actually curlies?

Just read all of this thread, and now feel like I kinda know you all a bit now!

I’m 27, spent the last 8 years at Uni (masters and PhD, just in case you thought I had done a ‘Van Wilder’) and going back for more! (Starting teacher training in September!)

I’m 5’10’’ and used to play WA in the school netball team, and I’m so happy to have found this forum and all you lovely curlies. Even just changing my products in 2 weeks I’ve seen a massive difference in my curls
