Its a great book every home with Afro textured hair should have this book in my opinion.
The book is well written, it has a regiment builder, how to care for you locks properly, the protein and moisture balance, product ingredients, product selection and lots other stuff. You might have read a lot of stuff but this takes out all the guessing in my opinion. The book covers both natural and relaxed hair.Just buy it and you will not be disappointed
I have just bought this book after being recommended to on this forum. I cannot thank you enough for recommending it to me.
In case you don’t know I use these forums and the emporium for my daughters hair. She is mixed race, white English and black Tanzanian and I am the white parent (though to be fair her dad is not great with her hair either) and I have not cared for curly hair before, apart from my permed hair days in my teens and trying to get something curly out of my loose waves and frizzy halo.
Of the books I have read on curly hair care and afro textured hair care this one is by far the one that has provided me with the most information and made clearer for me a structure to get a proper routine going for my daughters hair and how to change it as and when necessary.
I agree with babylilac, every home with afro hair should have this book.
It may seem expensive at £20 but it is the best £20 I have spent so far on my daughters hair care.
No definitely not necessary to buy in colour but would be nice if you fancy an indulgent treat. I have the black and white version and I can understand the book fine. in some diagrams where a colour is referred to it would be nice to see it in that actual colour but it has not affected the books general content and my undrstanding of it.
I certainly wouldn’t let it put you off buying the book in black and white and saving some money.
This book is on kindle now and I’m definitely going to buy it!.... I bought the curly girls handbook and though it was very informative, when i actually weeded through the information and sifted out the stuff that was actually relevant to my hair, it was actually quite little so onwards and upwards
Treating myself to this book as its on Kindle now. yay. Cathy Howse book is on Kindle now too but unsure if worth buying hers as well. More natural hair books or books for African textured hair types needs to be on Kindle. modern tech and all that
Thanks Lela. I think I will go for the black & white version. Just had a look at the price for the colour version (which I didn’t realise was double the price ). So yeah, I think the standard edition will do.
It’s a great book for all the basics of hair and goes through hair regimens and ingredients. If I remember, she hinted at a second book, could definitely do with going into a few things in a bit more depth it’s such a huge subject. I got the black & white version and I don’t think it detracts anything really.
