I suffer really badly from psiorasis and serrabic dermatitus on my scalp and in the last month it has got unbearable.  I am not sure if it is some Vit B12 shots that I have been having at the doctors that has ruined my hair (they have me really bad acne which is a sign of a bad reaction also) because my curls are just horrible, my hair is really frizzy and now it seems to have affected my scalp and now the psioriasis is spreading onto my forehead and its all red and bleeding.

I would like to try a new shampoo that might help with the problem as I am not sure whether its the Vit B12 shots or the shampoo so need to try and work that out!  I use the Bodyshop Rainforest Shampoo (see signature below).  I want to try a CG one which is fairly cheap.

Can anyone recommend any.  I think I am going to go to my doctors to get my steroid cream for my head again and treatment for my scalp but think this is going to ruin my hair again :(

Oh emoon, you sound really fed up n can’t blame you. I’m no doctor/chemist so not sure what reaction you will have to any shampoo suggestions but I use Tresseme Naturals which is CG, and I really like it. You can a get a travel size in Boots, so you cold try this size first see if it helps?

I was going to say the tresemme naturals shampoo also as a suggestion.  Also this stuff - http://www.akamuti.co.uk/products/new/liquid-african-black-soap-250ml/.  For some reason I remember - have a look at this post http://www.britishcurlies.co.uk/curl_forum/viewthread/466/ - may be worth trying.

It’s so difficult to know what shampoos will affect us.  Personally I’d try to find one that has a few ingredients in as possible.  My scalp seems to cope OK with the Abeni Dream Cleanser, which is incredibly rich.

The Abeni dream cleanser you can get from their website - I can vouch for this stuff too.  Its all natural & lovely.  http://www.abeni.co.uk/ourshop/prod_1271110-Curly-Girls-DREAM-CLEANSER-250ml.html

Well i have betacap (which is same as the betnovate I had years ago) to help my problem but the doctor has given me a shampoo which has all the dreaded sulphates, silicones etc in it.  There was the Laureth Sulphate (sorry not full description!) which was listed first.

I tried it last night, my hair was immediately a bubble bath and after washing my hair felt terrible - today is is fluffy and dull.  I am so down about it.  Tonight I am going to get my Aussie shampoo out, strip it, do a ACV wash, DT, PT - the works.

I am so fed up as its taken me 7 months to get my hair half decent and now in one wash its ruined!  I am going to stick with the betacap but with all the chemicals in that, its probably going to ruin my hair :(

I was looking at the JASON shampoos anf Giovanni Tea Tree Shampoo to try - what are your thoughts on this?

Some people are allergic to tea tree oil so if you do get the tea tree shampoo do a skin test just in case!

I too suffer from seborrheic dermatitis (although not as bad as you from the sounds of things) and found Aloe Vera Shampoo very helpful.  The one I used was made by Aloe Pura (see Aloe Pura Site.  You can get this from Holland and Barrets if you don’t want to buy online.

I also found that my scalp seemed to clear up a lot once I ditched sulphate shampoos and silicones.  Sure you have already tried this though LOL!

All the best,
Emma.

Hi there, I really felt for you when I read this thread, it sounds really awful.  I just wanted to let you know a few things.  Firstly, I and other mums have found that when kids get cradle cap which is a type of scaly Seborrhoeic Dermatitis on the scalp, the best thing is olive oil.  My son’s scalp was getting scaly so i put olive oil on and washed it a few hours later.  Others leave it overnight if very bad.  The results were amazing.  The scaly bits had lifted away and I could gently pick them out of his hair, the rest washed away next time I washed it. It’s gentle and good for hair condition too.

Also, have a look at beelief botanics website and victoria health for problem skin products and Lush used to do a solid bar of scalp massage oil that you warm in the hands and apply.  That’s called snake oil if they still do it.

I agree with the other suggestion of aloe vera, though you could try it as the pure gel to treat your scalp as it sounds quite severe, rather than in a shampoo.

The sheabutter cottage products that I have tried are lovely and very gentle, sounds like you have looked into those anyway.

Hope you find something that helps, I am a skin product fanatic because I get terrible skin on my hands in winter and both my children have had some eczema. Although the steroids are necessary evils sometimes, there’s no harm experimenting with some alternatives, downside being the cost of course. Best of luck!

Curly Rose, thank you so much for your post.

I still am suffering but I just try and get on with it :(  I get it in my ears also so its a hard one to tackle, not sure really if it will every disappear.

I suffered badly from eczema when I was a child, it covered my whole body nearly, and I still get bits when I am run down and tired.  I think I just have funny skin! :(

I will try the olive oil, i’m using tea tree shampoo at the moment, which has helped a little but its still bad.  I will have to look into your suggestions, though funds are too tight at the moment to buy anything, least I have olive oil in the cupboard! smile

Thanks again
