Hello Lovely Curlies!

I don’t know if anyone else has the same problem as me. I find that my curls are better a few days after washing, almost like the dirtier my ahir is the better my curls are! It’s really frustrating, I find that sometimes my freshly washed curls are too soft and either fluff up or don’t curl as much as a couple days later when I’m rushing around and quickly re-spraying my hair before work!

I use a little spray of dry shampoo to sort out the roots and it’s fab.

Does anyone else find this? Or is it just my weird wee head?!

Hi Rozzaline,

I have always wondered how us curlies could use the dry shampoo?!?!  Give us a tip on how to spray it on, wouldn’t it leave the white powder if you don’t brush it through?

Thanks smile

You could try what is suggested in the Curly Girl book and just clean your scalp with her lavender spray (she gives the recipe in the book).  You spray it onto a bit of kitchen roll and then rub the paper on your scalp, carefully moving your curls about so they don’t get frizzed.  Make sure you use a fresh bit for each area you rub, as it can get quite dirty.  When I did it the day after a barbeque, each bit went black.  It was so bad I ended up co-washing instead!

In the book she also mentions that you shouldn’t wash your hair every so-many days simply because that’s how you’ve always done it.  Before I discovered the CG method, I found that the longer I went between shampoos, the better my hair looked when I finally did wash it.  When I told my mum and sisters that, they all laughed and said that was nonsense.  Now I know I was right!  If you use the lavender wipe and refresh your curls with the spray, you could go for a couple of weeks without washing it, depending on your scalp and hair type.

Another way would be to try just rinsing your curls, massaging your scalp to remove dirt and then moving straight to conditioning, without cleansing.  My hair is so dry and damaged that I don’t get the problem you’re discussing, but I imagine I will once the damaged bits grow out, so I’ve tried to find out as much as I can about how to extend the time between washes.

Just started the CG method, but the difference it’s made was so great, even my dad noticed!

Will be treating myself to stuff from the emporium soon

With dry shampoo I just turn my head upside down, spray a bit into yhe roots, flip my head up and using a bit of pomade rubbed well into my hands, shake through from the bottom. Gets rid of white bits and stops too much frizz, pomade calms frizzies on the curls. I find I get much better volume and shape using it.

I’ve discovered Batiste Dry Shampoo recently and honestly, for curlies it’s a wonder product.  I spray it on on day 2 / day 3 after washing… spray at the roots and scrunch your fingers through it.  I lift the heavy sections, spray and scrunch.

Amazing - hair looks shiny and the curls are great because they haven’t been wetted / washed.

Intersting my curls literally “lock ” together after 3 days ,but perhaps is also due to the fact i use moisturizers everyday ,i have to admit the first day after a wash+DC is great ,my hair is soft and defined ,the next day is a frizz fluff ball and that’s when i go in with the leave ins and butters ,3rd day is great ,4 day i start locking ,5 day if i don’t wash my hair i ll get itchy scalp .

I m 2c/3a and 3b on the sides underneath

Ohhh am glad you posted that as I find that the longer I leave it between washing, the better my curls/hair looks. The longest I leave it is four days but to be honest it looks great still and I really don’t want to ‘wash out’ my lovely curls. I feel I should as, as you said I too feel slutty if I don’t wash it.
I left it five days once as had some workmen in making a mess and I didn’t want to have clean hair to get all dusty and messed up and it looked fine. I just sprayed my lavender water on it.  cool smile

This happens to me too! On the day after washing I have much nicer (and curlier) curls and sometimes I just wet the ends and add a bit of gel to re-fresh them. But I find I can’t get away with another day because as nice as the curls look and as much as I want to leave them I end up getting frizz on the top of my head. Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of this?

Hi Kay,

Something like argan oil, or shea butter is great for calming frizz; a few drops of argan oil, or a tiny bit of shea butter rubbed between the palms and then smothered over the canopy can make all the difference to those fly-aways and frizz.

Thank you! I’ll have a look out for some shea butter or argan oil and give it a try!

Thankls for the replies…I will try again to get some rose water. I went to Boots and was told they didn’t sell it.
Maybe it was not a big enough branch… I think rose water might be gentler than lavender water on my scalp.
