Catz mentioned using EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), and although I don’t use this often, I do find if I have particularly itchy bits on my scalp that are driving me mad (!), a little of this applied with my finger tip really helps!  It stops the itchiness almost straight away.  I can’t oil my hair, as it is just too heavy for my hair type, but would imagine using EVOO as a pre-oil at night will really help you!

Catz, thanks for the update but does it have to be blackstrap molasses?  I have already been adding oil to my hair pre-wash but never thought to do it overnight.

Thank you all for your help ladies   smile

Hello again,  blackstrap molasses I can comment on as I use it regularly but I know honey has the same properties ie moisture retention, they are known as ‘humectants’ and if you search online you may well come across some more, so no doesn’t have to be blackstrap but like I said it’s only £1.50 and gives my hair a nice rich colour.

A lot of people do the oil thing and call it a ‘pre-poo’ so it’s not uncommon, you get all the benefits from the oil plus protection during the wash - it’s not as bad as it sounds!

Hope this helps.

Ooh I bought the science of black hair on kindle and finished it in a few days.. If ur gonna buy any hair book make it that one! And i understand what you’re going through.  I had the scarf phase where I just wanted to hide my hair but its all about finsing whats best for your hair.  I literally only now just found the right proportions and layering to where a wash n go that doesn’t dry my hair to a crisp.  But I definitely recommend going for flat twists.  They’re quick and easy to do in the morning and if ur having a bad hair day around the rest of your head it makes it look ‘funky’ rather than just a hot mess lol. hang in there curlcatastophe and as for itchy scalp I had the same problem and used Lush’s snakeoil soap which was amazing! and made my hair really sift!... smells horrible though but not as bad as their henna grin

curlcatastophe I removed your link as it was only linking to google (and for some reason was making the page really wide!) - members can search google for images for Clueless to see the hair styles.

When I have time and I am feeling creative, I cornrow, flat twist, plait the sides and make the top into one, two or three pompadours. Fro-hawks are also fun. I’m gLad you are feeling more positive about your hair.

Hi marleyhill, how long do your flat twists last? How many flat twists do you do each time?
Never tried them but found a great link and they look really pretty and relatively easy. Good photos on pages 10 & 11 - How to Flat Twist Hair - Step by Step Flat Twist Tutorial
Thanks!

Hi Catz. I don’t do my whole head and they last about 3 days until I’m ready to co-wash my hair. Just wrap them up at night I’m sure they can last a week if you so than and use some styling product when doing them. Cheers

Try polytar liquid for itchy scalp…your hair won’t love it, but if it’s eczema or dermatitis, it should help.  Not too expensive, and available in any chemist.

An opposite cause may be an excessively oily scalp- dandruff rather than dryness.  You may need to wash it more, and remember to concentrate on the scalp (I personally don’t really wash my hair, the shampoo gets to it when i rinse it from my scalp, and I don’t use very heavy products.
