Hey, thanks for the reply. I have been using daily fix as my co-wash. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing, both with the co-wash & leave in conditioner. Hmmm I’ll keep doing what I’m doing for a few more weeks and see if my hair adjusts, trying my best to avoid low-pooing as long as I can.

i’m not using the shea butter a lot, i think i have used it twice since i bought it. was leaving it for days when i don’t have time to wash my hair but its frizzy. i generally don’t use products on the top of my head because any frizz i get is more at the ends, so its strange i’m getting a greasy head when there’s really been no products put on it! oh well, it probably is just my hair adjusting….anyone any idea how long it takes? should i co-wash my hair more often during this period?

co wash as often as you think it needs it.  The way I think of it is, when you shampoo all the time, your scalp gets used to producing a certain amount of grease (for want of a better word)  and this goes on your hair to combat dryness and when you change this and you’re not using shampoo anymore and your hair isn’t as dry, it takes a wee while for the scalp to realise this and stop producing so much.  Now I don’t know know if this is scientifically correct, but to my thinking it seems like a reason for things to take a little bit to settle.  Also, because when you’re shampooing you don’t really know how much grease your scalp is producing, maybe it produces a lot and you’ve not noticed before and it may be that in the end you do need to low poo in the week.  Hope this makes some kind of sense! Persevere with the co washing and see if it settles.

I personally find I need a low-poo once a week!  When co-washing, make sure you rinse the conditioner out well, really scrub your scalp when rinsing.  I know you are reluctant to loo-poo, but if your hair prefers it, then you have to go with that!  Not everyone gets on with co-washing on it’s own.  If you are worried about loo-pooing, try putting conditioner on you dry ends before washing; this will help protect the ends from drying out.

Hope this helps!

Hi guys, I think I know where the greasy top is coming from….Hairveda Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner! It did start after using it last week but I didn’t instantly connect it, however I done the deep treatment last night again & ooohhh how my hair is greasy & very heavy…even before drying!!! Euugghhh

So does anyone know what this tells me? Is the particular treatment full of moisture or protein? Cause my hair don’t like it!lol I’m soo glad I only bought the sample! grin

hey girlies

i combated the greasy scalp - i have stopped using the deep conditioner i had…but after listening to the advise i got on here, it turns out i wasn’t using enough conditioner…so i use a good big blop now and don’t get the grease! phew. i bought the naked rescue intensive care conditioner too so going to try that out today for my deep conditioner. hope it works because i bought the full size bottle so i’ll need to use it up lol

the only thing i haven’t tried now that i really do want to try is a ACV rinse…just need to buy it.

also, since getting my order from the emporium i pretty much fell in love with curl junkies curls in a bottle, but this week i decided to give it a miss and have been using the mop top anti-frizz gel…waw!! this leaves my hair sooo soft and tangle free…only downside is i’m not too keen on the smell but i can deal with it!

also, i colour my hair every 2 months or so, just because my natural colour is quite an uneven brown…roots seem to be darker than the ends so i colour just to give it an all over colour…anyway i have always used john frieda’s foam colour….i don’t know how cg this is…but my god my hair loves the stuff!! even the colour protecting conditioner…my hair never feels softer than when i use this. so this is my guilty pleasure for my hair smile

HI there

I am new to this forum, but I think that just as our body lets us know whether certain foods suit us, our scalp and hair let us know if certain products suit us. If you’re getting a greasy scalp then the method or product doesn’t suit you. It’s not a question of getting used to it - we need to modify and change products and methods until they suit and in your case, you stop getting a greasy scalp. It is possible that using conditioner on the scalp doesn’t suit you. What is right for one person, isn’t right for another.

I’ve posted a review on my first haircut with Carlos on another part of this site - and to be honest, I liked the cut but it wasn’t the best ever. He told me never to use any form of shampoo and then proceeded to use a cleanser. He told me to use only conditioner on my scalp which intuitively won’t be good for me. I need to cleanse both my hair and scalp =-maybe less frequently than previously but conditioner is not meant to cleanse. He used gel on my hair - my hair hates gel, but likes creams. I am happy to accept advice on good, natural products but if my hair looks good with certain products, why change? That is, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? No, I don’t want to use harsh chemicals on my hair, but one rule doesn’t suit all of us.

Keep up the good work. Our hair tells us what’s good for us - just like our bodies - if something’s good and it works - our hair will look good. If it doesn’t - our hair will look bad with unhealthy or greasy scalps.

hey guys

not been on here for a wee while, but just thought i’d do a wee update before “the” hairdressing appointment on saturday - i’m booked in for alan edwards in glasgow…cannot wait after reading the reviews on here!

i have been going to the gym lately and forgetting to bring my co-washing conditioners, so was using the shampoo/conditioner combo in my bag from before christmas - think its a herbal essences…OMG!!! my hair has been awful all week because of it!! Co-washed my hair tonight and its all back to normal - shiny and curly! It just goes to show what a bit of perseverance does - co-washing rocks!!

I’ll come back over the weekend with pictures of my curls after Elaine gets her wonder hands on them smile

Have a great friday everyone!

Hi

I’m totaly new to this forum. I have lost my curls and have very course wavy hair..My partner wants my curls back. lol.
I cant believe the difference in your hair. Your hair looks beautiful. What actual products are you using and when. I would like to try those out on my hair. At the moment i use Tigi curl shampoo or tigi b blonde shampoo. occasionly condition. I have loreal professional and john frieda b blonde. I have an array of curling styling products. Non of which seem to work. I have spent 100s on those. lol
Also what do you mean by co wash. I have read some bits on here but i am totaly lost when it comes to ingredients and what is best fo hair.

Hi felen.

Co-washing is when you wash with conditioner only. A lot of shampoos contain sulfates which are very drying to curly hair. It’s possible that your shampoos contain these - check the ingredients for anything ‘sulfate’ in the name.

If you use any products with silicones in them (they usually have ‘cone’ at the end of the name, but there are a few exceptions), then it’s best to ditch those as you’ll need to use a sulfate-containing shampoo to get remove the product build-up from your hair…

Best thing to do is one final wash with your regular shampoo, then ditch it in favour of sulfate-free shampoos (not easy to find, check out health food stores like H&B) and conditioners. also get rid of any silicone-containing products. You need to make sure you wash, condition and moisturise regularly, and your curls should come back!

A lot of curlies swear by the tresemme naturals conditioner as well as the garnier fructis repair and shine conditioner (Boots is currently selling it half price).

Hope this helps

Hi guys

Ok so i went to Alan Edwards Hairdressing yesterday based on the reviews on here….and I loved Elaine. I’ve booked in to go back in 8 weeks. Only thing is, she has convinced me not to co-wash. I asked her opinion on it, and her husband had done it, but his hair was very greasy. She didn’t like how you need to wash your hair so often. She got my hair looking amazing. Fair enough there was frizz which I haven’t had while co-washing…but the curls are looking amazing, and low maintenance. So I have decided to go back to the dark side girlies. I tried taking pictures of my curls from yesterday but they aren’t coming up too good in the pictures. But I have individual proper curls i’ve never had before…waw!!
