Hi, I have been a long time lurker of British Curlies and found some fantastic advice, had the big chop to remove my straggly over straightened ends and have bought a number of products that are recommended. But I am having very little luck product wise and as I am limited to the high street for the moment I was hoping someone on here might point me in the right direction LOL
I have 3B hair I think which is quite fine,  but I have alot! Each time I have tried using products such as Boots purple, Boots curl cream or UG scrunching Jelly they all leave my hair totally flat even after diffusing which has me running back to grab the mousse. The cheapest mousse I can find works the best for me(??) but as I would really like to try the curly girl method properly it’s not ideal as they all have silicones. Can anyone advise of anything high street wise that is CG friendly but not to heavy please?

I haven’t tried it, but a colleague is having real success with body shop wheatgrass fixing gel… Quite light but with hold. It has a water soluble cone in it, but CG friendly. Naked do a curl mousse, it contains alcohol so could be drying but I thought it was ok (not used it for ages though).

If you look on amazon then I think the Eco styler gels are a reasonable price?

Signature

Curly end of wavy. I get chunky ringlets and some elongated S shapes.  Fairly dense, medium texture, medium porosity.

Rotation is key for me.  Get on well with most Curl Junkie products especially CQ, CIAB, PP for stylers, Hard hold gel on top; usually BRHG.  Also CJ protein treatments.
Other stuff B&A Gel, EO conditioners, GFRS, Hairveda Sitrinnillah, Joico K-Pak reconstruct, Afroveda TT and CL butters.

Hey!

I can’t really use gel either Wadiuxanne - even the light ones seem to drag my hair down (I have flat roots on the best days). I find gels = no volume.

I think less is more when your hair is fine - I discovered that after months of trial and error ! As I have a bad scalp I have to shampoo so I’m not entirely CG either. I figure I’m not going to beat myself up about it if it works for me tongue wink
You could use your mousse, if you can’t find anything else, but keep your hair in good condition with CG products and clarify it regularly to remove any build up.

Jelly products seem to work better than gels for my hair (which sounds similar to yours)- its a shame the UG jelly didn’t work for you. I tried the trevor sorbie original curl cream not that long ago and despite it being quite a thick cream it did a good job.

I don’t know how you dry your hair either but I also normally diffuser the roots first to try and give them some body before they dry, especially if I’m using a heavier product. Cos my hairs fine I can’t plop or super soak as it weighs my hair down - have you tried scrunching out alot of the water before you add your styler ?

I’ve been using the Paul Mitchell extra body foam (which I think is CG) with good results. It’s about a tenner I think and I’m sure its CG.

You could also try making your own FSG - alot of curlies swear by it. I think there will be a few threads on here with different recipes.

Good luck ! :o)
