I was only able to do a weekly wash last week (was too busy with Uni) and as a result my hair was quite tangled by the end of the week (Friday). Last night I washed with my Afroveda shampoo and tried out my new intensive conditioner from PureNuff Stuff, I don’t think I like it. The consistency while thick(ish), was far too watery for an intensive conditioner, the slip was non-existent and my hair didn’t feel that much different, I’ll give it another go before I start trying to flog the 500ml bottle.

After this I sprayed with my herbal tea spritz, put a little of the CP Avocado detangling condish (especially at my ends) and then some Afroveda Curly Custard (now called Curl Define), which is advertised as a styler but is rich enough to use as a light moisturiser. After all this I did some (messy) twists and went to bed.

I’m wearing a scarf right now but the twists are still soft and moisturised, tonight I will be spritzing my ends and sealing with some OH Burnt sugar pomade or the Qhemet heavy cream.

Hope you had a good one, aerohead!

Happy New Year all!
I’ve been lazing about this holiday and haven’t done much; henna’ed mid last month (used up the last of my Jamila henna, will now be trying the Yemeni one) with great results and discovered an easier way to do a treatment and protect my hair at night, twisting takes too long (I have to do them REALLY tiny so them won’t unravel while I sleep like a crazy person) and cornrows/canerows straighten out my ends too easily, the twist and roll! I simply grab a section of hair (my partings are messy), apply condish/oil, twist and then tuck the twist under (sort of like if you are trying to achieve the ‘curly ‘fro’).

I did an overnight treatment (see pic below) a few days ago using AOHSR/EVOO (I also detangled at the same time) ‘cause my hair was very dry (I hadn’t been moisturising at night, too lazy) and then co-washed the next day. There was no greasy feeling (I used warm water and stopped pulling right before my hair would start to make the ‘squeaky’ noise) but I did get a lot of definition and shine (these aren’t so important to me right now) and my hair so nice to touch (I’m still working on the hand in hair syndrome I have smirk ).

I also do the twist and roll most nights (if I’m too tired I just put on my silk bonnet and fall into bed):
. I lightly spritz with either Oyinhandmade Greg juice (running low on this) or my herbal tea formula.
. Jump in the shower and let the steam to its thing!
. I part my hair into 8 sections (I hope that as my hair grows, the number of sections will reduce).
. I use the palm of my hands to pull out any shed hair (learnt that from cynthiarf) and then twist. I moisturise my ends using one of my butters and then I tuck it (the twist) in, I use a ‘bobby’ pin to secure the twists at the nape (my problem area). I repeat for every section.

After this, I just tie a satin scarf or put on a silk bonnet and the next day when I take them down, my hair is tangle-free and therefore easier to style. I think I’ve finally found a technique I love, I haven’t gotten any more single-strand knots since I started this so I’m hopeful!

Been a few weeks since my last entry, haven’t been doing much; tried out Bodyshop Honey condish (won’t bother with a review; made my hair ROUGH and greasy), had some flat twists in (only lasted a week+ though *sigh*), and the twist and roll (tuck would be more appropriate) is still working for me.

I’ve also discovered something new about my hair,  I examined shed hair from two sections of my hair and found that one strand was thick and the texture smooth (from the nape) and the one from the front of my head: coarse and fine stranded (seriously, why so freaking wispy?).

This probably one of the reasons why I retain less length at the front, on the other had the shrinkage factor might just be making it appear shorter than the rest confused

I’m also going back to my water/oil daily spritz (My Greg juice is finito downer  ), I’m thinking of using herbal water but I’m stomped on which oil to use, Coconut is out (harden into white clumps as soon as I step out of the house), I already use EVOO for my oil rinses, got some Jojoba and Macadamia to use up so I might try one of them (aren’t I a good PJ?  tongue wink ).

I’m doing an overnight moisture treatment at the moment (totally messed what is now my LAST henna treatment), I’m trying out coconut oil/agave syrup instead of my usual mix of olive oil/random humectant. Wish me luck!  cheese

Thanks Mich and Keisha Jo! smile

The coconut/agave didn’t work out so well, I’d forgotten how much my hair loves coconut oil; when I went to rinse it out, it was as if I hadn’t put anything it (my hair moisture level was the same but my hair was sticky, lol ).

My little sister came up for the weekend, she had been having hair troubles; shes natural but always wears weaves/extensions in the winter because people keep telling her that her hair will fall out in the winter (don’t know why she listens most of these people have relaxed hair), her last weave caused her to lose a lot of her and made her scalp sensitive. She was quite down about (setback in her growth process) so offered to take her for a consultant and a treatment at Adornment365, it went really well (steaming is like magic for the tresses!) so she in turn offered to put two-strand twists in my hair, this is no small feat as the twists are small and my hair is so dense!

They turned out great (they actually look like kinky twist extensions!), they also showed me how much longer my hair had grown (must.resist.urge.to.cut!), I’m going to try to keep them in for 3 weeks +.

Had a bit of a surprise today; on my way back from Uni, I was stopped by a lovely lady who liked my twists and wanted to know all about them. Nice end to the day, eh?  cheese

Note to self: Don’t forget to use silk scarf tonight! LOL

EDIT: Added pics of twists. These were taken after several days of rain and shower steam. The first one was taken yesterday and the second the day before.
