Natural Hair S.O.S

My natural hair journey started off slow, in fact I wasn’t even sure i was going to go natural. I had my hair in braids or weave can’t quite remember. All i remember is when i took the weave/braids out i was looking the regrowth and started considering going natural…but was never 100% certain. As time went by I fell in love with my natural hair and you-tube played a major role, so much so that I now documenting my hair journey.

But I struggling finding the right product for my hair, not my hair type (I just learnt that today) but natural kinky hair full stop. some please help!

Does natural never wearing hair in braid/weave ? just wear it natural?

what’s a pre-poo and is one done?

how often should one condition?
whats co-wash?
styling product?....help

Heya Au Naturel,
Congrats on being newly natural, try not to be too worried we have all been there at one point. When I first went natural I had done quite a bit of research but even then I didn’t fully know what I was doing.
Natural hair as you’ll come to find is all about trial and error as everyone’s hair is diff and there are no rules set in stone.
To answer your questions:
1) A prepoo is basically conditioning your hair before you wash it, this can be done using a conditioner or an oil or a mix of both. Whatever you like. It helps the hair not get overly dry when washed. Do as often as you like
2)How often you condition is really a personal thing, however to keep your hair moisturised i’d recommend at least once a week!. And how you condition is deeply personal as well, i.e if you use a rinse out or a deep conditioner
3)Cowashing is basically washing your hair with a conditioner rather than shampoo
4) Styling products are self explanatory, they can take the form of gels and creams

There is other stuff to being natural, however i can’t tell you everything and it is up to you perosnally what you like. So i’d recommend buying a book on natural hair “science of black hair” has good reviews and/or going on youtube

HTH and good luck
