Hi Curlies,

I’ve been CG for about 3 months now and am starting to really love my curls. I can’t believe the difference in the back of my hair: all those stringy, nothingy curls have been replaced with more defined, moisturises curls.

Why then would I want to straighten it? I know, I’m bad! I just love variety. Pre CG I would use a serum on my dry hair before using the flat iron. Is there anything I can use which is CG to protect my hair?  I was thinking of using almond oil?

Thanks for your help.

You might get away with a one off, but I think if you were to do it regularly you’d see damage from the flat irons.  Not sure it is worth it if you hair is doing really well.  Easy to say, I know! If your hair is long enough maybe you could get some variety by not putting any styling products with hold in, let it dry naturally and then tie it and loop up a low ponytail.  By next morning you might then have looser curl.  Or maybe get some ideas for wearing it up?  I just think that straightening very occasionaly isn’t really worth it, and regularly isn’t an good option.  I’d be very happy if my curls were curling up and looking happy!

Thanks for replying. In the end I did straighten my hair and used the silicone product.

Has anyone else straightened their hair recently?

1. I hated it. I can’t believe how flat and horrible it looked.

2. My looked really greasy. All the moisture is fab on curly hair but when it was straight it just looked so lank and nasty.

I ended up washing my hair the next day to get back my curls! I normally wash every 3 or 4 days.

After 5 months, I wanted to see how my hair looked blow dried straight with a brush, and it looked good, but I found my FIRST broken hair after not seeing one for over 5 months.  I liked how my hair had more volume from the blow dryer, but the damage it does isn’t worth it. I was so curious too, but I don’t think I will ever do that again.  I used very low heat and was very gentle with my hair with a wood bristle brush, and my hair REALLY didn’t like it.  I used to do this everyday for years, but I had no idea how damaging it was.  I wish I had started the curly girl method 5 years ago; I would have long lovely curly hair smile

Stay strong; happy hair is beautiful healthy hair smile
