hi
ive been doing the curly hair method for just over a week now and the frizz is hugely reduced already but i seem to have like a dandruff now?? my scalp isnt dry or flaking tho.
i used come clean then inecto coconut conditioner (organic and cone free)  and now just use the inecto conditioner and have been using knot today as a leave in on the ends but my hair feels greasy at the roots and doesnt have the shine it used to!
i know that your hair can get worse before its gets better so i will persist but im thinking maybe i need to use the come clean regularly? i thought i would be able to use it just once a week.
my hair is fine and wavy but i have alot of it! i did read what hair type i was but ive forgotten, im definitly a 2 something!
just lookin for a bit of advice regarding the “dandruff”
thanks

Hi md0u40a3 - There are a couple of things you can try - are you giving your scalp good agitation with the pads of your fingers?  Also make sure you are rinsing all of the co-wash bit out of your hair.  Also you could try combing your leave in through your hair when it is soaking wet with a wide tooth comb and not putting any co on your scalp area - try starting your condish a bit lower down the length of your hair.  (I mean your rinse out/leave in co).  You could try just using water to wash with too for a couple of days - just use the co as I said before (missing the scalp area).  try this and let us know how it goes.  If this doesn’t work maybe there is something in the co that isn’t agreeing with your scalp and you’ll need to switch.  grin

I have 4 type hair and my hair seems particularly fragile, so I’m not sure whether the CG method will work for me…or if the accessories will pull my hair out, because I’m also shedding a lot.
I’m not quite sure whether it’s due to moisture or protein imbalance…

Hi angel_sista and welcome to British Curlies - have a look through the Type 4 section.  Getting the moisture/protein balance sorted will be the best place to start.  Have a look too at the signature of curlies to see what products they are using.  I’m sure that some of our type 4’s will chip in with great advice for you smile

Forgot to ask what products you are using just now?

Thank you for your reply! :D

Not much… I shampoo with AG peppermint monthy…..
And was cowashing with Wilkinsons Coconut Conditioner, which I wouldn’t recommend….(It doesn’t dissolve properly in the water and leaves white bits….EURGH!)

For deep conditioning, I like to use coconut cream (but again…leaves bits…) or rhassoul conditioner….

I usually seal in with butters.

I try, but my hair is always so frizzy from the hair that’s broken off! :( I’m also weary of wasting money, because I’m a student so I can’t really afford it >.<

Have a look here at the suggestions for deep conditioners http://www.britishcurlies.co.uk/curl_forum/viewthread/514/.

edit:  forgot to say, have you tried oils on your hair? eg olive, grapeseed - things you may have in the house?

as far as the CG method goes you can - parabens are in lots of personal care products.  You may want to do some further investigation tho and decide if you want to use products with parabens or not smile

The Giovanni shampoos are appropriate for the CG method - whether you wish to use shampoo or not is up to you.

Hi all,

Am brand spanking new to this forum and frankly - desperate.  My hair has become embarrasing.  I have just ordered the Curly Girls book from Amazon and after checking all the products I’ve just invested in can see from the forum that none of them are doing me any good! (Kerastese Shampoo and Masque, TIGI Curls Rock, Loreal Curl Down, Kerastase Oleo Curl leave in conditioner). So am feeling ready to try this new way of life.  I’ve read pretty much all the starter pages and I think I need to use a pre CG shampoo to get all the product out and then co-wash with cheap lovely smelling conditioner and work out whether I need lo poo or a protein treatment - is that right??  I think I’ve got fine, very porous hair.

In addition (and the reason it’s become embarrasing) is my triangle has been reduced to lank, frizzy, tight curly roots with lank almost straight ends.  And my grey is spreading like wild fire (started with a small patch aged 17 now nowhere to hide aged 31).

So my next action is to get a consultation with Ben and Jason ASAP! I sit at a desk and people stand over me staring at the grey while we have a convo (slight paranoia).

I don’t understand why it’s become so lank and horrid, I can only assume it’s been cut to barely there, I kept trying a new hairdresser every cut as I couldn’t find a decent one. The last guy told me I had really short layers at the top (I had asked the guy I saw before him to give me more volume at the top post triangle reduction).  Anyway enough of my sob story I just want to say thank you to everyone who posted for newbies and congrats to Crystaltips - your flickr photos are so inspiring and your curls look unbelievable.

Any words of encouragement to get me started on this journey are greatly appreciated.

Also - what should I do first? Hairdresser, CG, pre CG poo???  smile

hi shopgirluk and welcome:) I would def give the cg a go and see if it will help your hair.  You could just start the cg way before getting your cut.  (though if your apt for a cut is imminent then it may be worth doing that first so you don’t need to worry about what products they use on your hair).  It could be the products you are using just now that are making it lank. The curly book is really good for newbies - also reading through threads here will help you enormously.  Good luck and keep us posted on how your hair is reacting. smile
