Hi everyone grin

I think it has now been established that hair texture ie fine/med/course and level of porosity are highly significant when selecting CG friendly products. An example being, course hair needs less protein but high moisture.

I would like to start a list with this in mind - however, my knowledge of UK products and their ingredients is limited at the mo but I can start with a couple:

CG products suitable for course hair: (Low/No protein)

Conditioners:

Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose (AOHR)
Aubrey Organics White Camelia (AOWC)

CG products suitable for highly porous hair:

Apple cider vingegar (ACV) - final rinse with diluted ACV

Just a start, but it would be great if there are any knowledgeable curlies out there who could add to this list. There is a lot of info out there on texture/porisity and what this means etc but it would be great if we could start investigating products so that it makes it easier to start a CG routine based on hair texture/porisity. Routines could then be tweaked from there.

What d’ya think?

wink

Oh yes, a great idea!
I think that texture can be even more imoprtant than curl pattern when it comes to selecting products!!
I’ll add a couple for coarse hair:
Conditioners:
Original Source Mint and Tea Tree
Inecto Coconut oil Conditioner
Garnier Fructus repair and shine ( my newest find for co-washing!)

will add more as I think of it grin

2C,medium, dense hair.
sulfate and -cone free since 25-06-2009 and loving it!
Constantly learning new things about my hair - hey it likes protein after all!
Also mom to 6 curly little ones of various types!

i think i need too go back to basics i’m still learning about my hair needs i think i am medium 2c 3a not sure aboult porocity and all that can you help i have posted before that something is missing when i try too style my hair this is probably down too me not meeting my hair demands.

Hi coolshot

What are you using at the moment and what is your routine?

Do you have colour/highlights or have you had any chemical processes done to your hair?

You can get a reasonable idea of how porous your hair is by pulling out a couple of hairs from different areas of your head and doing a ‘float test’ on them. Take a glass of water and place the hairs on top of the water - if they sink within a couple of minutes or so then that indicates higher level of porosity. Most people have a mix of porosity anyway but if you have had colour or other chemical treatments you will probably have higher porosity. This means you need lots of moisture. Also, you can usually tell by how quickly your hair soaks up conditioners and products - the quicker it soaks them up, the higher the porosity. If you hair takes a while to get wet in the shower, that also indicates a higher level of porosity.

Texture, refers to how fine or course your hair is - not how thick or curly it is. Again, most people have a mix but tend to have more of one type eg: I am medium/course but have colour treatments and am going quite grey so am probably more course generally.

Try googling for more info on texture and porosity.

Post up what you use at the moment and your routine.

Hope this helps smile

Coolshot - is it the end result you’re not happy with? Some curlies would find that the OS conditioners are not rich enough for anything more than a cowash and leave in. Do you use a deep treatment of any kind?

Am going raving mad trying to find a thinnish cowash without protein!  gulp

So far I have bought:
OS Almond and coconut
OS Pear and Avocado
Dr Organics Aloe Vera
Waitrose Coconut and White cranberry (peg mod cone)

All of them contain protein in varying amounts!

I have the AOHR for conditioning and this will have to be my DT also - until I find a protein free one but it is too thick for a cowash.

Please help me find one curlies things are gettin’ desperate!

Hi there Lillu - looking for a protein free cowash is really driving me insane now!!! Thanks so much for the Eliven recommendation - I tried googling to get ingredients but no luck. I would be grateful if you could post up the ingredients list cheese Also, I don’t have a poundland anywhere near me (central london) - do you know if they stock it anywhere else? Thanks in advance.  grin
