I would like some recommendations for leave ins, Ideally a products that works well on it’s own. Also a question about 2nd day hair, I’ve never achieve 2nd day hair, I have a satin pillowcase and sleep cap and most of the time need to wet my hair the next day and apply more moisturiser. I have been using Shea Moisture replenishing conditioner and also mixing with aloe and oils. I sometimes think my hair would be better with silicones, I get so many single strand knots. Does anyone know if Beautiful Textures and the Nothing But range are good?

Hiya Kay,

Haven’t foudn any HG as yet but all of the leave in’s im currently trialing seem to work well, have a look at my diary. The thing with leave in’s is that i’im not sure they are meant to work on their own, the minimum I’ve gotten away with is a leave in and a sealant

Re 2nd day hair I rarely acheive this too, sometimes i’ll be able to achieve it ‘moisture’ wise but I’ll still have to tidy my edges in the morning. The few times I have it’s been with MHC Type 4 Creme

Thanks for your reply, I feel like i’m at a crossroads at the moment. I want to get my hair cut shorter and maybe do wash and go, I always tie my hair back, maybe if i have a few layers it will look better. I’ve also been reading up on starting dreadlocks. It just gets disheartening trying to stick to a routine and still having knots and breakage.

Hey KayDeeB. Just checking in to see how you are doing? At times my hair fustrates me also but I try not to cut it because 1. I feel like that’s an easy option 2. I need to learn how to do it. Have you ever thought of protective styling? My hair is protectively styled for most of the year. In the autumn I have braids, in the winter I have a half weave/half wig and in spring I have my own hair protectively styled.  There is nothing wrong with changing your routine if you feel it’s not working. For example I don’t detangle anymore because I think it’s too harsh on my fine strands. Dreads are ok but they need to be looked after also with re twisting and hydration otherwise they actually fall out.  Wearing your hair out all the time will lead to dryness tangles and knots and eventually breakage so there’s nothing wrong with tying it up or putting it up.  Some ladies wear a bun for the whole week and then take down and wash. Cheers Marley

Thanks for replying, I think I need to have braids in the winter. I don’t like my hairline at the front so that puts me off but I wear hats a lot in the cold anyway. I’m wary of having dreads because it’s another learning curve. My partner wants to have dreads and he suggested it, I don’t fancy the shrinkage and like you said they still require a lot of maintenance.

I always end up cutting my hair every year, I don’t like to wear it down because I get a lot of shrinkage, i’ve been wearing it in a high bun after my daughter and partner said it looked nice.

Just lately my hair has felt in better condition, I did the cherry lola treatment and experienced softer hair for about 5 days. The edges were easier to manage to. I’ve got some KCKT and made kimmaytube leave in. Before my holiday in August I think i’ll invest in some Curl Junkie Smoothing lotion as recommended by Adjoa.

That’s good that your hair is in better condition. It’s still good to explore your options. Some single braided extensions cover most of your hair line with bangs or layers cut and curled on human hair or cut into synthetic pre-curled hair. Here’s a link on thirsty roots with very litte hair line out.
http://thirstyroots.com/braiding-hair/micro-braids/134482_invisible_braids_jpga378eb44648bcc9a1e1d30d81d1952ae

This looks like pre- curled hair that has been cut into long bangs and layers at the from. Most women who want to hide their hairline (or a big forehead like Tyra Banks) bring their hair forward in long side swept bangs and layers brought forward. I would only advise go to an expert braid stylist who will not braid your hair too tight or too small especially around the hairline and who knows how to cut. Cheers Marley

Thanks for that link, There is a Mum at school who braids but I now have the added inconvenience of a patch of alopecia on the top of my head. I’m trying not to freak out about it as I’ve had them before over 20 years ago and it could be worse, I have my health and my children are healthy. I’m trying not to get pre occupied with it but I normally have a good cry once a month when my period is due. I asked the Dr what the treatment is nowadays and they don’t do anything for 6 months in case it grows back so fingers crossed. All they did back in the day was prescribed steroid cream or try to mildly irritate the scalp in order to stimulate a reaction. I’m using an oil mix when I remember.

It’s just leaving me with less options. I don’t really like being natural but I hate chemicals more. I don’t like the feel of wearing my hair in a bun or twisted up in a clip as I don’t like to feel any pressue on my head at the moment. I’ll just carry and try and do more protective styling in the winter.

I apppreciate you replying Marley x
