I’ve started wearing my hair up in a high bun but I have very tight tangly hair at the nape of my neck. Can anyone recommend a holding product that isn’t too drying?

ORS edging gel. When you touch it feels very hard but when you rub it in your hands and apply to your hair, it has a great hold, but goes on very soft. Don’t be scared by how thick it looks in the tub. My whole family swears by it and we range from Mum (type 2 /3) and my sister and I (type 4’s). Its also cheap. What i do, is I apply my moisturiser on top, rub the gel in my hands, apply it to my edges (you have to rub it in your hands first or it won’t dissolve properly), rub some hot water onto the edges and brush with a boar brush, while smoothing with my hands. The warm water makes any possible residual white stuff (and there normally isn’t any) dissolve away. It also makes my hair smoother. I then wrap a scarf around the part I want to smooth for as long as I can e.g. while I’m getting ready in the morning - take off the scarf and I’m ready to go! I love the ORS edging gel - it really works.  However, I would reccomend uusing it with a moisturiser.

I always forget about the scarf trick, just ordered some of the ORS gel from Ebay. I’m not keen on some of the ingredients but I can’t afford to buy from the emporium right now. Thanks for the recommendation Lela7

I use my homemade FSG for my edges. As lela7 said, one the gel is smoothed on, I wrap a scarf round my edges for a while and it works well for me.  I always put either leave in or oil on my hair first though then smooth the gel on top.

In the past I used the Olive Eco Styler gel which also worked well but it has protein in it so I stopped using it to avoid protein overload as my edges are very delicate anyway.

I try to limit my ‘hair expenses’ to one or two expensive items. I ust use the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie and a mizani heat protectant and everything else is cost effective. I’d love to buy more from the emporium, but it’s better if I limit myself.

Also, I’m not sure if my last post was clear. By ‘on top’ I meant I apply the moisturiser on top of my hair 1st before I apply the gel.  If I didn’t apply a moisturiser 1st, the gel may not give me enough moisture if it is used by itself.

I’m using protein in my hair regularly but i’ve always had the tight crispy coils at the back whether my hair was natural or processed.

Thanks, I knew what you meant. I’m using the Curl enhancing smoothie at the moment and also kimmaytube leave in. I found some KCKT on ebay for £15 free postage. Trouble is if I did need something from the Emporium then I used to get a few things at once to justify postage then wold end up spending a fortune.

Thanks, I saw that. I’m not sure i’ll bother buying it again. It’s okay as leave in on top of a liquid leave in but not great by itself on my hair.

This is very interesting because although my bulk of hair is 4c…my edges are like fine flyway fluff. There is a marked difference. However often hair dressers often treat this as my normal hair and try to braid it in which leads to disaster i.e coming out at the roots! (Adornment 365!) Or they shave it off to give a different hairline….sigh…In my wisdom I know that this hair is meant to be left out and it does do lovely coils and little plaits ( it won’t stay in twists). Either that or I use Eco styler and the curly girl’s friend a wide head band/ bandeau that goes all around your head. Not those long elastics..they are too tight and hurt my head. Cheers Marley.

i usually dampen my hair by spritzing it with water, then applying my whipped shea butter mix or some jamaican black castor oil and topping off with Eco styler gel (the olive oil one). i then smooth, slick with a soft toothbrush and tie down with a scarf. It works wonders and my edges are nice and smooth

I can’t stand that habit of most braiders. I treasure my edges, ESP since I already have a five-head! I can’t be having a TEN head now! I’m usually quick to stress that they DON’T touch my edges. At first my main braider was so suprised and offered her disclaimer “the hair won’t look very nice” but now she’s used to it. Haven’t braided in at least 2 years though.. Maybe I’ll get the itch again this winter.
