HELP!

I’m in a bit of a dilemma here. Just when I thought I had worked out what my hair needs and doesn’t need, I’m back at square one again downer

I’ve been trying to get the protein-moisture balance in my hair back to normal for the past 2 weeks.  I’m usually good at telling when my hair needs a protein treatment so when the time came to do my usual protein treatment I decided to use a different product made up of proteins only which didn’t do any good for my hair. It was still feeling mushy and my curls were still too stretchy so I re-applied the product thinking I didn’t use enough the first time and ended up with dry straw-like hair. My hair has also become more porous as a result which worries me as it was never like that before. I’ve since, stopped using that product and have just been using moisturising products and doing weekly DTs to correct the problem but my hair still remains mushy, over-conditioned, and my curls very stretchy.

Something went wrong somewhere, and I feel it had something to with the new protein treatment I used but I’m confused why my hair didn’t react well to it since I thought my hair liked protein.

Hi Zenith sorry to hear about the protein probs - it must be the new one you used.  Have a look at the ingredients and compare the type of proteins to the other brand - maybe if there is something different in it.  Try and use a lighter condish just now just to give your hair a little chance to get back to a balance where it’s not over conditioned. (providing the hardness has gone).  But I would try and compare the 2 protein products just to see what the difference is.

Hi Zenith - chm’s point re the type of protein is significant - it could definitely be the type of protein that your hair has reacted to. Which product did you use?

I used the protein spray from the Komaza Care line.  I think my hair just didn’t like it.
I decided to make my own protein mix from a recipe I saw on the Curl Whisperer’s website and it brought my curls back to life - so I’m much happier. I think I might stick to making my own protein treatments from now on grin

Great news Zenith! Do post up any recipes that have worked for you on the Natural Curl Care board.  grin

Hi there,

My hair is seriously lacking in moisture, I have recently been to a fabulous stylist who’s given me some great tips on how to care for my hair. However, despite following all his advice I still have a LOT of frizz! Does anyone have any advice on how I can improve my hair care regime (below) to help with the frizz?

Wash hair twice a week, rinsed twice using natural conditioners and leaving the last one in. (I wash occasionally with shampoo to remoe any build up of dirt)
Kinky curly curling custard put on whilst the hair is dripping wet and left to dry naturally until it’s 90% dry.
Dry with a defuser on a cool setting, low speed leaving the hair a bit damp still, and scrunching the ends only.

Many thanks x

I too am having protein woes. I’ve realised my hair loves protein. It makes my hair feel so soft and strong, it dries quicker and has reduced frizz. The rough feeling I had in my hair has gone. BUT…. and its a big but… my curls are flat and less full. Its a double edged sword as I am now left with beautiful feeling hair but hair that lacks volume and great curl.

Hi

I’m new to the CG method.  I wonder if anyone could help me.  I think I’ve worked out i need protein in my routine.  However I’m very confused as to how to get it.  There seems to be alot of conflicting information.

Do i have to use a protein treatment and then moisturise afterwards?  Or can I use a protein and moisture mask together to save time?  i.e a ‘strengthening’ deep conditioner?

Hi curly lighthouse - for the first time I would use a protein treatment followed by moisture afterwards.

Thanks Curlyhairmich,

I’ve just bought a treatment with one type of vegetable protein for starters to see how I get on with protein.  Thanks for advice!
