Hi all. Ive taken the plunge and decided to quit using champix. Just wondering if any one here has used this to quit and how they got on with it?  Im now on day 3 and feeling a bit nauseous!

CONGRATS Jehnibella!!

Well done you smile I wish you huge success and a lifetime of good health. I am a non-smoker so sorry have no advice on quitting but my mum gave it up after decades of smoking and she has never looked back. I am so very proud of her. It is worth it, stay with it wink

Hey girl! All the best with quitting smoking. I don’t have any pearls of wisdom as a non-smoker, but I’ll try to encourage you smile  I’m sure quitting will improve the way your hair looks, as the smoke/toxins make the skin look dull, so I guess they do the same for the hair.  Also, you’ll have more oxygen in the blood to feed your scalp, which should improve your hair!

jehnibella, I feel you on the stopping smoking I’d tried quite a few times before but always went back to it but a month ago I bought an electronic cigarette (it heats up a nicotine solution and produces a vapour so looks a lot like smoking but it is not burning tobacco so you get your nicotine hit but none of the burning chemicals you do with smoking) I got mine on the 30th October and havnt wanted a cigarette since, its been the best thing Ive ever bought! Its legal to vape them anywhere as far as I know.
I’ve never tried Champix but I have heard a lot of warnings about the side effects, bad dreams depression etc so I just want to say watch out for those, its a great drug if it can help you stop smoking with only mild side effects but some people get them quite bad and it can affect you quite a lot.

Theres a thread here of people who have actually been taking champix

Good luck, the most amazing thing I found was how strong my sense of smell really was!!

Thanks for the good advice! Im now on day four so the tablets have increased. With champix i have to keep smoking for the first 7 days and then quit sometime in the second week. Feeling quite sick at the mo and having funny dreams but they are more amusing then any thing else!! I am definitely not feeling the urge to smoke as much as usual.

Well done!

I can’t help you with the Champix - I can’t use it because that and the other tablet (begins with an R?) isn’t compatible with my other medication.

I’m 5 and a half weeks fag free now, I went cold turkey after over 20 years (but I didn’t smoke when pregnant or breast feeding). It was difficult for the first week but I found that breaking all my little habits when I would have had a smoke has really helped. Things do taste different!

I think the real difference this time after numerous failed attempts to stop is that this time I have a very supportive partner. The ex was so negative about it (‘you’ll never do it’) that I always failed within hours.

Go for it - and make sure you treat yourself to something nice with the money you save!  There must be some lovely hair products you need….......

i found out i was pregnant by having a cigarette..i just lit one up one day and nearly puked!! i said to hubby oh crap..he said what? i said i think i might be pregnant and he said how do you know and isaid coz this ciggy is making me feel sick and he said have another smoke so i did..same thing happened..next day i went to the chemist, got a test and yep sure enough…..im pregnant…five weeks!
needless to say i stopped smoking as i did the first time round.

you can do it..it is hard but the benefits totally outweigh the ciggies!!!

Come off the champix. Made me feel terrible. Nearly passed out on them last night , so dizzy. Gonna try cold turkey instead.

That’s a shame, you were doing so well with it.

Cold turkey - you can get other stuff to help you, Nicorette inhalators and such, all available on the NHS. The inhalator is good as it gives your hands something to do, and you can have a nicotine fix too if you need it. I used one but chewed on it rather than for the nicotine fix. It really did help.
