try brastop.com for larger sizes!  I had for years worn a 34/36 D or DD I was measured by the bra lady in my local department store who told me I should be in a 32 F!!  She made my day, I lost inches and gained a cup or 2!!  It did take a while to get used to my bra being tighter around my rib cage but honestly it is worth it - my friend accused me of having sneeky implants or exceptionally good chicken fillets!!  I find my local shops don’t stock much in an F cup that is pretty or not granny bra-ish so i tend to buy all mine on line now and bra stop is one of the best I have found.  Hope this helps.

Hi!

All bra bone poking issues are probably solved by now but just wanted to add that it’s probably best to go get measured… and because I’m such a cheapskate I just find a shop and then buy the bra online at BraStop.  La Sensa don’t have to best service it’s true but Marks and Spencer ain’t great either. Sorry ladies. I tend to find I only fit into their pokey shaped cups in the shop.. wash the bra a couple of times and find i don’t fit anymore. Bravissimo is really good and they don’t push you into buying.  They’re really helpful and they help you find a good shape for your body.

The basics of bra sizing are that the strap that goes under your boobs should be quite tight, but not enough to hurt. You should be able to slip two fingers under the clip comfortably. When you look at the bra from the back it should be on the same axis as if you drew a line under your bust. Does that make sense?

If you wear a wired bra, the “bone” should sit flat and be touching your sternum… not proding you though… and end past the breast tissue which is further than you think, it’s kinda, a bit past the centre line of your armpit.

To work out the arm straps should be set on the tightest can gradually loosened until they’re comfortable, but you should still have some lift.  Then you can look at the cup.  You want a smooth line, no boob bulge, and no gaps either; although if one boob is a bit bigger than the other, then that might happen - just tighten the shoulder strap a bit and it usually sorts it out.

Think that’s mostly it - hope it helps

The annoying thing I have found is when you get measured in one shop and want to buy a bra in a different shop and you try on the size you were measured they don’t fit sometimes!

I use Bravissimo. The service is great whether you go to the shop or ring them up. They really know what they are talking about and take the time to get you something that fits.

i am a 36G and the only bras that actually fit me properly are plunge bras which if you have a small gap between your breasts are the best type to have (the lady in LaSenza told me that when she took a look at mine).  I have brought KAtie Price bras which have been the best for me - i dont liek the woman but her bras are good.  i noticed that when i went into Asda the same size asda bras and the katie price bras are not actually the same size - werid i know so i only buy the katie ones or from lasenza now.  I hope that helped?

oh and once the lady from debenhams made me wanna cry becuase she nastily said we dont do anything in your size here and made me feel like a fat pig :(

Unforgiveable!  I feel really vulnerable when I’ve got half my kit off in public, some people just don’t realise how hurtful they can be!

I was at a boutique shop in london before christmas trying on party dresses.  The assistant picked some sizes out for me to try on (1, 2, 3 size system, not UK so I was completely baffled) then when I got into the changing room and they didn’t fit she looked down here nose at me and said something along the lines of ‘yes, well, you are bigger than you look aren’t you’.  Got dressed faster than the speed of light and legged it out the shop.  No commission for her!

no wonder that a lot of women are wearing the wrong sized bra if thats some shop assistants attitude.
and like you say T.G they lose out on commision!

Yes, I suppose I should consider it a minor victory, but the dress was just so pretty downer

A lady in Marks & Spencer did the a similar thing to me…when I was a 30E at the time. She actually told me it was impossible to be that size, and that I look a lot smaller. Er…thanks, I KNOW I don’t look that size but when I am wearing a bra in that size don’t tell me its impossible! I’ve never bought a bra from there again, although that might be because there haven’t been any in that ‘non existant’ size.

After some noticeable changes lately, decided to get remeasured today at a place in the retail park near where I live. And I struck gold! The lady there was absolutely fantastic and ran around after me for nearly an hour finding different styles and colours.

She also went into a few details about the measurements, and why they can vary so much between places, She took the bit around my ribs as a direct reading, and the cup size is the difference between around the ribs and around the bust. Turns out I am not the 34b I thought I was, but actually a 32e!!!!! I have never tried anything like that size on before and I’m stunned they fitted.

Anyway, I digress. I asked her how I could possibly have been wearing a size that was, on reflection, so obviously wrong and she said that I have noticed some changes lately so can’t rule out that I do actually now need a different size, but also said that M&S have been known to add up to 2 inches to a bra size around the ribs (with a corresponding lower cup size) and la senza up to 8 inches!!!! I asked her why this was, apparently some people just choose to measure differently (what!!?!) but the more sinister version is that if as a consumer you are told that all your bras at home are the ‘wrong’ size, you are more likely to fork out a huge wedge of cash on quite a few more that fit ‘properly’. So some shops may try to coerce you into changing your bra size to fit their retail targets. I nodded knowingly, then paid for my excessive amount of new underwear, all of which bore no resemblance to the size I was currently wearing, secretly hoping that I had not just fallen for the same trap.

BUT, I’m now sitting at home in my glamour model sized undies feeling a lot less demure but a lot more comfortable (and staight backed!) than before and I’m quietly confident that I am now wearing the right size.
