I decided to try putting my hair into a pineaplle for sleeping in last night, I honestly did not expect good results but after a restless sleep lacking night ( I think I must ahve been aware of hair feeling odd!!) I took my hair down in the morning to discover I had lots of volume and lovely curls so I am very pleased with the result.  Would defo reccomend type 2’s try it.  I had thought I would have an obvious band mark and frizz so I’m chuffed, hair just needed a quick wet and more gel.  Got lots of compliments at work about it today! grin

i also did it and was wonderful !! I was stuck , my hair seems like yours and is never curly enough and cruch and T-shirts didn’t work much cos the type of hair, however CHM also recommended this to me yesterday and although my hair is very short it worked very well ! It def. had lovely waves and no frizz…

However I am not still good at AM routines so I assumed would be ok w/o anything and of course at a couple of hours my hair was a freezing mess ! lol

Tomorrow i will do the same as you. I will spray some water and then some gel or cream…I have to experiment wink). I was also interested in a Mousse for styling as gel seems more for screw curls….

THinks ****

I really will have to try this pinappling sometime, I’m just convinced that my hair will stay in the same position in the morning.

it feels a bit like it will when you first take it out but if you just leave it, it comes back down to earth so to speak!

I pineapple, and find it really helps with keeping the frizz down (a bit!).

My advice is to use a really big scrunchy and make it quite loose when you tie it up. And find one that has a silky fabric, this way it will slide right out when you get up and not yank a load of hair out with it or leave a tie mark.

I really like pineappling…(that sounds v weird).  I find my hair can look quite ropey before bed and then I put it up as high as I can and leave it and the next morning quite a bit of my layers have come down (my hair is only nape length) BUT the top bit when it comes down is all fluffy and full.  Its allowed me to have 2nd and 3rd day hair - though I could just have lower standards hee hee

Pondering the pineapple tonight…and I wondered…does anyone add products to their hair before bed prior to pineapple?

Trying to avoid the frizzy short front bits (I used to pull my hair out bad girl) and adding product in the morning sometimes makes me hair feel tacky…

Anyone out there with thoughts?

Hi, this is my first post as I have only just come across this site! Wow! I had no idea there were other people with hair problems like mine!
So, I think I have 2a/b hair - theres A LOT of it - past my armpits, and longer when straightened… my question is, how do I ‘pineapple’ when I have such long hair? If I just put it in a high pony tail, apart from looking like vicky Pollard, it just hangs down straight. I have always twisted it into a bun in order to stop it hanging down and getting trapped under my head/neck when sleeping but this creates frizz and im sure isnt good for my hair…

Also, can someone please tell me what plomping is?? Ive scoured the forums but am still not clear AT ALL on that!!

Thanks!
K

Hi crystalkate and welcome!! have a look at this site - go to the video for plunking as she describes it well http://jessicurl.com/Demo-Videos-p-6.html.  (its sounds really weird when its written out - better to see it)

Re pineapple - I fold mine up so it is more of a bun than a pony tail - very loosely and just sort of put the scrunchy loosely across to hold in position (I know you have loads more hair than me but just to let you know you’re not the only one who does a bun effect!)  smile

Hi SmileLikeYouMeanIt,

I don’t have type 2 hair, but I do pineapple. You basically tip your head upside down and tie it up loosely and really high ontop of your head (so it looks like a pineapple) using a scrunchie or something similar. smile

You sleep with your hair this way overnight, and it helps keep the curls together, so you can let them down the next day and they’ll be all nice and curly. Unfortunately, I’ve had no luck trying to master 2nd day hair :(

My method is pretty similiar to CC’s - I tip my head forward and gather all my hair into a high pony and secure with a scrunchy (I actually use a cut off from an old pair of opaque tights instead of a scrunchy-it does the same job!!)  I look rediculous, kind of like an extra from Fame or a throw back to the 80’s but it really does help with second day hair!!I tie it quite tight as I find it comes loose in the night.  When i take it out in the morning my hair can be huge but soon settled down once damped down with a few sprays of water.  Hope this helps.

Before I had my hair cut into a bob (January) I regularly wore my hair up like this ... to go out!! LOL - you’re right - it does have that 80’s fame vibe about it - perhaps I was trying to relive my youth!!  LOL

Whenever I remember to pineapple (as in not very often….but with the state of my hair this morning I think i’ve scared myself into doing it more) I use either an old pair of tights that I’ve lathered, or a silky knee-high (that I’ve also laddered).
