i have been wearing my hair in a pineapple at night since summer 2010.

i discovered how useful it can be by accident; it was a hot summer night and i just couldn’t stand my hair on the back of my neck as it was making me feel more hot and sticky so i pineappled and have never looked back!  i never go to bed without my pineapple!!

and several months later i read all about the pineapple on the forum!!!

Thanks curlyhairmich and crystaltips. Well, apart from my husband doubled up in laughter and mocking me for my Fame impression (I used an old big silk scrunchie - I just needed the legwarmers)- I am curly today on day 2 - normally its mush. To not have to wash it today was amazing. thanks all! will now start on the CG plan and see how i get on! grin

I used to pineapple but I found it put more stress on the hair follicles than ponytailing in a bun. I am on a medication (soon to go off it) that leads to hair loss hence one of my strategies to minimise any hair loss is by avoiding any strong pulling to the hair follice (traction alopecia). I wear a ponytail with an added head band to secure the hair. It does not interfere with my sleep and allows me to secure the hairs at the back and sides which are not long enough to join the pineapple. Sort of hard to describe in words, I think it is about time I start posting videos of stuff like this.

In any case, I think pineappling is superior to those not worried about inflicting added tension to their follicles, but for those losing hairs (both men and women), it is not an optimal solution.

Kind Regards.

Because curly hair is not a hairstyle, it’s a lifestyle.

I’ve been putting my hair up in a pineapple since I started CG just over 2 weeks ago.  It makes a real difference for me.  This morning, I just spritzed with a little water, and put some curl creme in.  So much easier than having to wash it every day!

I have yet to try pineappling, but I think I’ll give it a whirl tonight.

What puts me off is the fact that all my curls come out whenever my hair so much as brushes another surface, so I don’t really have high hopes of it maintaining my curls!!

If your hair isn’t that long, I can recommend tying it in pigtails!  If I pineapple, the sides get too stretched, and end up almost straight, but if I use pigtails, it is so much better!
